This book was one of the required readings I had assigned to me by my yoga teacher during my RYT500 training. I heard about Caroline Myss, but I never read any of her books. I will be honest and admit that the fact that Oprah was endorsing the book I was not into it. As one can tell, I do not believe in celebrity endorsements. But this book deserves to be mentioned and it is a valuable read for anyone and everyone interested in holistic healing, alternative medicine, intuitive medicine and energy channeling. In one way this book is almost a comparative religious study on spiritual healings associated with Jewish mysticism, Christianity and Hinduism. One learns from this book how different cultures over centuries long period came across same conclusion - that there are 7 major energy channels in human body. Dr. Myss draws parallel meaning between all three.Personally I am most familiar with chakra energy system. This book helped me deepen my understanding of each chakra and how they are associated with human emotions, human organs and how over time, of unbalanced they can lead to disease. I also loved the fact that this book was written in a simple language that no matter what level of background one has about energy medicine, any person can understand the message. Reference material is invaluable and in my case it will be my personal guide to reading more about this amazing topic.

After digesting this complex book and her other lectures (free on Utube) I feel two different conclusions for myself as a result: First, I think she tried very hard to SELF-empower those who are ill or needing to 're-arrange' their lives to have more fulfillment and meaning by creating a sort of 'road map' to check and heal yourself; Second, I feel she is rooted in Roman Catholicism so her 'lens for the world' goes through this filter to make sense. Although in later lectures she denies Jesus was the 'son of god' and that he was just trying to show a WAY to live, heal, and thrive....and that she doesn't want anything to do with the church and all that dogma...she tries very hard to bring Christian, Jew and Buddhist/Hindu together by drawing parallels in the 7 chakras, 7 sacraments, and the Jewish Kabbala 'tree of life'. She says she did not bring in Islam because she just didn't know enough about it--but she could have also brought in Mohammed's journey through the '7 Heavens'.She tries to bring these paths into one format--that of showing a WAY to see yourself and the world by each 'level' or chakra's influence on us, the way we have molded our lives and bodies in response to what has 'happened' along the way, and how we keep traumas in our cells to either wreak havoc or propel us forward in life.In that way-she makes some excellent comparisons and shares many 'stories' to illustrate her points. without the personal stories of others going through what she is teaching about in that section of the book--it would have been a VERY dry read. She has a reputation as a no nonsense Teacher (watch her stinging comments on u-tube to people taking her workshops! She is blunt and doesn't fool around). Yet the Christian way of seeing the world is her lens--angels, etc influence her profoundly. I have come to the conclusion that her popularity is somewhat like Paramahansa Yogananda's popularity in the 1920's--he came from India and brought Yoga to the West and mixed it with Christianity--a brilliant way to get the Western mind to OPEN to new ideas. In turn, Caroline does the same, blending these three religious paths in a 'common ground' sort of way to bring her points to fruition. Namely, that WE have 'road maps' from religions all around us that have been sort of 'lost in translation' and the points--to show us a way to live in health on all levels: spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally--have been forgotten or covered up in ritual and dogma. That is very interesting and the book takes WORK to follow the suggestions for each 'level' or chakra. To look within and figure yourself out and make changes...She has a good grasp of healing, yet her 'system' is still too rigid for my taste. It stays within the confines of accepted religious thought--and that is its appeal to those a bit frightened to venture outside the norm. As I said--a brilliant move to get western minds to OPEN.For those wanting to look within with a ROADMAP TO FOLLOW and figure out what's wrong with your health or life in general--it is a workbook, and a good one. I recommend her lectures on u-tube over the book however, because she HAS CHANGED HER STANCE ON HEALING SINCE THIS WAS WRITEN IN THE 1990'S. Watch her more recent lectures to see that she now acknowledges that we do NOT cause EVERYTHING in our lives-that 'acts of God' etc are just what happens...she has matured spiritually over the years. So read the bok AND watch her newer stuff to get a more balanced view. But do keep in mind where she herself is coming from. The Christian saints are her upbringings perspective so keep that in mind too.Aloha

I read this book with interest. It is well written. What disturbs me about this book, however, is the author’s view that some illnesses were not intended to be healed. One might retort, why? What proof is there of this assertion. I much prefer the book by Frederick Bailes, Your Mind Can Heal You, which explains why all disease can be healed, which is of course exactly the teaching of the greatest mental scientist who ever lived, Jesus Christ. In that book, the author explains the fundamental need of all to realise that the universal spirit is perfect, and knows no disease, and is present in all, but generally not recognized. Once one appreciates this fact and realises that disease is the result of error of mind, and that once we accept that the universal spirit dwells in all, all disease can be healed. You may disagree, but you should read Bailes’ book first.

Since I became a Reiki Master I have been reading numerous books lately on various forms of energy healing therapies. I just finished reading this 303 page hardcover book (Anatomy of the spirit: The seven stages of power and healing by Caroline Myss, Ph.D.) which I purchased on Amazon for a bargain price. This interesting and informative book is organized into two parts covering in detail the basic principles of the author’s system. The first part (A new language of the spirit) explains the principles of energy medicine and intuition and made in the image of God exploring various esoteric issues. The second part (The seven sacred truths) goes into great detail explaining the seven Chakra. In fact, this book covers the Chakras in more depth than any other book I have read lately on this topic. The unique aspect of this book compared to similar energy healing books is this author combines religions (Christianity, Jewish and far eastern belief systems like Buddhism, and Taoism) along with other esoteric subjects. In conclusion, if you are seeking an interesting approach focusing mainly on the seven Chakras you may want to check out this volume.Rating: 4 Stars. This is the second Andrew Loomis book that publisher Titan Books has reprinted. Just like Figure Drawing for All It's Worth, this is a large format hardcover with a dust jacket. The production quality is excellent and it's a faithful reprint of the original content. There are 5 parts to the book. The first 4 parts covers the drawing of head for men, women, babies, kids and teenagers. The last part is on drawing hands. The instructions are insightful and simple to follow. Illustrated examples are beautiful. The section on drawing hands is not a lot but I guess still adequate enough. If you want a good book on drawing hands, check out Drawing Dynamic Hands by Burne Hogarth. It's great that this classic is reprinted because everyone can own one now. This is a great companion book to figure drawing books. Highly recommended.

The 3 stars are based in comparison to the other Loomis books which are excellent. This is why I reservedly only give it a 3. I was expecting much more actual drawing and this book seemed more sparse in information than the others. So while the book is useful and instructive it is more an add it to your Loomis collection. If you are new to the artist I would choose Figure Drawing or Creative Illustration. As far as complaints that the book is dated - it's from the 1940's. Doesn't mean you can't glean information from it or learn anything from that period.

The book itself is excellent. Lots of great information on how to draw the human face. It's from the 1940s, so the illustrations have a beautiful vintage look to them. If you want to get the printed version, it's a good investment. However . . . the Kindle version is a joke. It's actually a scanned version of someone's personal copy, complete with underlining! Not only that, but every page is an image, which you have to click on to view full-sized! It's absolutely horrible. I saw another Kindle version of this book (even cheaper) and it got pulled, I believe, because of complaints about it being a scanned copy of someone's used book. So I bought this one instead, but it's exactly the same! Unbelievable. I was a bit surprised that the Kindle edition was so much cheaper than the hardback copy, but apparently it's true---you get what you pay for. Now we know why it's so cheap! If you want to learn how to draw faces and hands, don't waste your money on the Kindle version. Save up for the actual book, which is a gem. I'm giving this four stars, because I don't believe it's fair to bring the entire book's rating down based on the moronic Kindle edition. But Amazon seriously needs to look into this.

One of the hands down best books on heads and hands you can find. I love Andrew's attitude of "don't just copy me, but use these lessons to discover your own style." A true master of his craft, this book (and all his books) have something to offer for the amateur and professional alike.

There is a ton of info in here. Epic book. A little more engaging than Hogarth's "Drawing the human head" in my opinion. However, this is *not* a quick study. Just making it past the first few pages will be days and even months of practice ( if you want to get it right ). Worth the time though, if you are serious about learning.

1) At 12 dollars this would be ok as a paperback, not worth the money or a need to be a hardback 6 dollar kindle at best2) Good and informative but not great, broad shallow coverage, but covers a lot of ground.3) Good simple concept coverage but the examples have kind of a cartoonish simplicity to them4) A lot of hit and run topic coverage with topics concepts concise and covered with one page of simple illustrations5) All concepts very clear and presented with minimal but effective explanations ...easy to learn.I do not regret buying the book, there is decent information even if the visual examples are only simple Joe average Norman Rockwell, suburbanite types, however buy it used if you can, at the new book price it is way overpriced for what you get.

An old warhorse that I am grateful has been reproduced as it has been the 'go to' book for so many artists, illustrators and animators. Once you have dinned the info in here into your head you'll have the basic tools to draw the head and hands in any position. It is not the magic bullet that a lot of Youtube commenters seem to be after ("What brush/pencil do you use?) - it is the start point for good drawing skills that will give your creativity a solid base to take off from.

If you wish to draw the figure you should buy the Loomis books...all of them...they are the first two years of a good art school encapsulated into four or five books. Go through the lesson plans and you really will learn to draw. They have finally been reissued and are magnificent.Well worth the money.

Loomis is really a "must have" for anyone inclined toward an artistic pursuit. While there are pdf files available online, these are far superior in quality, usability and durability. In an era of digital, I'm thrilled to find these superb resources! My thanks to the publisher...I've already pre-ordered the next in line. Now, for the actual content...for those that are not familiar with Loomis, do yourself a favor and review his work FIRST. I've purchased many different tutorials but by far, Loomis is the best. His explanations are readable, engaging and pertinent. Examples are detailed yet not overwhelming. Trouble-shooting always seems to be right on target. Best of all, his understanding of the body is unsurpassed! The information on Head and Hands builds upon that of the general works. Originally I waivered on whether or not this was needed since there is some discussion in other works...due to the superb detailed instruction, I opted to purchase this and very glad I did so!While many topics are fine for digital, this is one area where print really makes a difference.

I've been living with metastatic breast cancer since 1998. This is the best book on the subject of MBC I've found. The author, Anne Loeser, has been accumulating information contained in this book for years and years. She has kept this up to date electronically and has sent out electronic versions for free to those requesting the information. This has been purely voluntary on her part. I'm happy that she's finally published this in book form. It will be fabulous to take with me on trips to my oncologist and to scientific conferences where treatments I'm not familiar with are discussed. Thank you so much, Anne, for the work you continue to do for the breast cancer community. You are truly a super star.

This is a great book and a must have for anyone living w/ MBC and their caregivers. My mom has been living w/ MBC for over 3 years and I found this book recommended online thru a forum. I have found it so helpful that I have bought 3 additional copes (1 for my mom, and 2 brothers)! This book provides very useful research on treatment options, what to expect and how to manage side effects.

I have been living with metastatic breast cancer for 8 years. I’m a well educated, well informed patient. I could not believe how well written and helpful this book is. It’s a wonderful resource for educating yourself and providing you with a framework to ask questions of your medical care team. MBC is a complex disease. This book provides as much information as needed concerning each of the subtypes and which treatment would be appropriate to discuss with your care team. I highly recommend!

The author, Anne Loeser, did an amazing job compiling valuable information on a complicated topic. This book is well researched and provides an invaluable tool for patients, friends and caregivers. It most definitely fills a need for the metastatic breast cancer community.

Wonderful resource. Kindle edition read on the Kindle app on iPad connects you directly to website references. Lots of information for anyone facing MBC diagnosis.

This is an incredible resource for people diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, medical oncologists, care givers of those diagnosed with this disease or anyone who works in a related field. The author has spent hundreds of hours compiling and researching the most up to date information for all stage four breast cancer types, treatments, and all the important know-how’s that often times our doctors forget to discuss due to their busy schedules handling hundreds of patient case loads. One item I learned from this book (which I hadn’t known nor had anyone discussed with me) was that I did not to continue receiving monthly injections of Xgeva after one year of having this treatment. After one year, it is typically okay to switch it to every three months. I brought this up with my MO team and they said no problem. Often times as patients, we have to really self-advocate and because we know our own bodies the best, we are active participants in treatment decision making. This book allows us to do just that, with a very educated mind. Thank you Anne!!

I read this because so many of my friends with metastatic breast cancer recommended it. I thought it was excellent and it is a must-have resource for anyone with metastatic breast cancer and/or their caregivers. I have been living with triple negative MBC for over 5 years and I've gone through a lot of different cytotoxic chemotherapy treatments plus 6 clinical trials. I am a well-informed patient and I do a lot of research and I'm active in steering my treatment decisions. Over the years I have found that most oncologists practice a patient-centered shared decision-making model so it's important for patients to be well informed. This book is one of my go-to resources, very well written and helpful. Definately highly recommend it as a great resource to have.

The author has provided a complete review of all the available treatments for a metastatic breast cancer patient. The best part is that she has no hidden agenda, and is not shilling for a diet program or special treatment regimen. Without ego, she has simply quantified and clearly explained all the treatment protocols available to the metastatic breast cancer crowd. Now, that's a refreshing change of pace.
