AMAZING textbook. Such clear descriptions and examples. Mostly pictures (since its an "atlas") but provides great explanation too. Easy to get through, for sure. Makes the combo of lecture and lab cohesive.

Been using this book for my Histology Course in Medical school. A lot of the notes that my teachers uses come from it. It is not only pictures like make other atlases, there is text to help teach you the material. Very well presented. A very good resource for any medical student looking to ace their histology exams.

I thought it would be so cliche and homeschooly, but it is one of the most phenomenal hold I've read!!!!!

This book was easy to read. I have read other books that I like better than this one. I like this one as a stepping stone to get started in doing any sort of relationship researching.

Young people are bombarded with conflicting messages from the media, entertainment, their families, and from the Church on the purpose and meaning of sex. Alongside that confusion stands raging hormones, new relationships, and questions about love, dating, and relationships.In How Far Can We Go? In my days as a young unmarried Catholic, I often suffered through chastity talks or had dating manuals pressed on me. The dating manuals were painfully earnest in their descriptions of hypothetical couples who were keeping their relationships 99.44% pure by following strict rules of behavior. Chastity talks were even more painful because you had to be there in person, squirming in your folding chair and wishing the floor would swallow you as the speaker hemmed and hawed, or, even worse, was wildly enthusiastic for Purity! There seemed to be no happy medium between either rigid guidelines that seemed designed to minimize contact between a couple, or hazy exhortations to purity that gave one no practical guidance in the matter of a relationship rooted in reality.Brett Salkeld and Leah Perrault know this sad scene all too well, and they have written a refreshing remedy and valuable resource, How Far Can We Go? A Catholic Guide to Sex and Dating.An excerpt:"Here are two famous answers to the question "How far can we go?"Keep both feet on the floor.Asking "How far can we go?" is like taking your girlfriend or boyfriend in your arms, walking to the edge of a cliff, and asking, "How close can I get to the edge?"We had to write this book because we think both these answers are unsatisfactory. We think we can do better. The first answer is very practical, but anyone with a little imagination can get around it. In trying to set out an easy-to-follow guideline for Catholic couples, it ignores the question of Christian formation. It says that physical intimacy is only about how you act, and has no connection to the kind of person you are called to become.The second answer is much more dangerous. The foundation of the metaphor it uses is that sex is roughly equivalent to suicide! In other words, sex is dangerous and sinful. Any advance in physical intimacy is just getting you closer and closer to the edge of the cliff. When we give answers like this it is no wonder the world thinks the Church is down on sex!...One of the reasons that Christian books on sex and dating have given a misleading view about sexuality is that they ignore the essential communicative aspect of sexuality. Sexual sin is about using your body to lie to your partner (and probably yourself) about the nature of your relationship. There need to be one or two clear lines about what is appropriate for unmarried people, but those lines are not drawn to keep people from acts that impure in and of themselves. They are drawn to keep people from lying with the language of their bodies. This book, then, is not primarily about which acts are and are not permissible. This book is about learning to speak the truth with your body."One thing I really appreciate here is that Salkeld and Perrault have a respect for their young audience, and don't treat the question "How far can we go?" as an attempt to find out how much whoopie one can get away with, but an honest query about what is right and appropriate at any point in a relationship. (I snickered out loud at their description of a youth group leader who answers this question from a young couple by saying, "I'll let you in on a little secret. Your relationship will do much better if, instead, you ask yourselves how pure you can be." If you haven't heard twaddle like that, you haven't been around the Authentically Catholic! youth scene much.) They emphasize from the start that their model of dating "presumes that those who use it are sincerely trying to live holy lives. If you're hoping to find loopholes so you can get away with as much as possible and still say you're following Catholic rules, this model isn't for you."Just what is this model? It relies on honestly answering the question "How much of myself does God want me to give to this other person?"The authors explain:"Sex is not a shortcut to intimacy! If you want to have sex but don't want to get married, you need to look at your reason for not getting married. If it's not a very good reason [the financial demands of a big wedding being an earlier example], work through it and then get married. If it's a good reason, it's probably a good reason not to have sex. Sex speaks a profound language of the body that is both a sign and a source of the kidn of unity that married people share. If you're not ready for marriage, then you're simply not ready for the demands of a relationship that includes sex.If you understand our explanation of the Church's teaching on premarital sex, you should be able to follow our dating model. It works on exactly the same principle; physical gifts of self ought to reflect our self-giving in other areas of a relationship."The dating model the authors set forth is firmly rooted in responsibility and free will: not a "one-size-fits-all" set of rules (because every person and every relationship is unique), but guidelines for discerning at each step of a relationship the appropriate levels of not just physical intimacy, but spiritual, intellectual, social, and emotional intimacy All of these are often bound up with one another because humans are bodies and souls -- what effects one must effect the other. One of the most common-sense statements in the book is that intimacy needs to grow gradually over time, and the authors provide examples of couples at different stages of life and relationship -- high school students, couples in college, working college graduates, and high-powered career men and women -- to show how this discernment can play out in various ways. There's a fun set of graphs that examine how all forms of intimacy progress over the course of the journey from perfect strangers to spouses. The authors aren't shy about expressing the Church's teachings against common sexual pitfalls such as pornography and masturbation, and clearly explain the reasons for these teachings. They are unequivocal on the Church's teaching against premarital sex and activities that try to mimic the effects of sex, and devote the last chapters of the book to marriage and NFP.I absolutely recommend this book -- I really think it's one of the best resources I've encountered for an honest and balanced treatment of what it means to be a faithful Catholic moving toward marriage. For what it's worth, I find the authors' discussion of sexuality and intimacy in relationships to be very true to my own experience of having a real and intense and Catholic unmarried relationship while trying to steer a good course between prudery and prurience. This is the book I'll give to my own children to read when they're old enough for such discussions, and I can give no higher praise than that.

I was given this book by a friend, and can honestly say it is the ONLY book on this topic I'd consider recommending on the topic of relationships for teens/young adults. Most of the books out there are all self-defense manuals - they either treat physical intimacy as if it were an intrinsic evil to be avoided at all costs, or they treat it as if it were a necessary evil that requires that you protected yourself in every way possible from its emotional consequences. Both make the mistake that somehow people will magically know when they're "ready for sex" - the former being when a marriage certificate tells you you're ready, regardless of where you are at emotionally, and the latter assuming that people will somehow make thoughtful, disciplined and responsible choices in the heat of the moment with a raging cocktail of hormones clouding their judgement. In my opinion, it is unlikely that anyone who trusts the advice of either of these types of books will come out unscathed.Unlike other books, everything in this book is shockingly practical - whether you're religious or not. This book really shines at communicating the importance of physical intimacy in the context of the whole relationship. It doesn't treat physical intimacy is not an evil trap waiting to ensnare us. Rather, it provides practical advice and real-world guidelines for judging the amount of physical intimacy that is appropriate in the context of the level of emotional, intellectual, and spiritual intimacy in your relationship. Examples from real couples are used throughout the book to help put everything in context for young people in similar situations.Perhaps the most impressive thing about this book is that the authors manage to somehow treat the subject in an entertaining, accessible fashion while remaining completely orthodox to Christian theology (the authors are catholic but I don't see anything specifically catholic in here that wouldn't apply to any Christian, or frankly even an atheist).Finally I have something I can recommend to my kids without worrying about sarcastic guffaws of laughter that come along with books like "I kissed dating goodbye". If there were more books like this, people wouldn't think Christian attitudes toward sex were so negative. Kudos to the authors.

The author writes quite well, and knows the technicalities and culture of liveaboard boating. I downloaded Book 1 based on Amazons recommendation, and was hooked by the settings, most of which we've sailed in our own boat. We had just enjoyed our last season aboard sailing out of Bradenton, discovering and enjoying Cayo Costa, Punta Gorda and points south to Ft Myers. Yes, on a sailboat, not a trawler - but we do stow our fenders in our bow lockers, Ed:). Now eagerly preparing to return to our sailboat to enjoy those cruising grounds once again, I had to followup with Book 2. I was disappointed that Breeze just couldn't get past his terminal stupidity, but that's what makes this story. I'll just have to plunge right into Book 3 and hope that his troubles are a bit less criminal and that he can get past those ashes and enjoy the ladies that gravitate toward this trawler trash:) Give us a hail, Ed, if you spot JAMU, a Leopard 42 Catamaran, lying at anchor in Pelican Bay.

Ed takes you on another blow-by-blow adventure from Florida's gulf coast, through the keys and down island in the Caribbean. Just when you think he's going to let Breeze settle down, north he goes all the way to the Chesapeake Bay.As usual, beautiful ladies and plenty of excitement fill these pages as Breeze gets tangled in all sorts of trouble from drug kingpins to the Cuban Government.Read Trawler Trash first, the pick up this gem of a read.

Leap of Faith is pristine and ready for action, and so is Breeze. His quest to reclaim what belongs to him takes deadly twists and turns. The characters are realistic and memorable. There is plenty of nautical action and suspense as Breeze walks a tightrope between his own survival and doing-the-right-thing. Breeze contemplates the many paths he might take, but his actions are never predictable. The author's narrative on the seas, ports and boating life is mesmerizing. I'm a big fan!

Tough to put Ed Robinson's Trawler Trash books down. I just wanted to keep reading. This "Boat Bum" (which is really isn't) can get into more situations than you would think possible. He doesn't look for trouble, it just finds him. Very interesting Character and a Charmer to boot!

Ed, you've done it again. You have written a spectacular book that kept me on the edge of my seat. I have been to many of the place you mention in these books and its as though you've brought me back. Your descriptions of the locations and the water and the sunsets are spot-on. Thank you. This is a great follow-up to Trawler Trash, and I loved every word of it. Thank you!!! I bought it this morning on Amazon and couldn't put it down all day.

I enjoyed reading it.It was completely different from the first book that I read by Ed.....Ed's other book( Leap of Faith )...is a reality book....although the vast majority of people...probably think he's out in left field....but NO....to me...he is right on target...This book is altogether completely different....it's a novel about a modern day pirate...who ends up having to pay for his sins...Fernando.

I read all four of this series in just about 4 days, could not put them down. This character is mostly my dream identity! Except for the drug dealing, of course. I am a former boat bum turned Marine Surveyor, so I can really identify with the scenarios!

The author's fictional character "Breeze" is a refreshing delight. Finding it in the author's mind to create a character that is an outgoing, dope smuggling, etc. etc. (I don't want to give too much away) modern day Pirate with morals. I'm looking forward to reading about his further adventures. As he has in the past, Ed leaves us with a cliffhanger. I'm already looking forward to reading the next continuing adventure.

Rumble by Ellen Hopkins relates the story of an eighteen-year-old boy named Matt reeling in the wake of his younger brother's suicide. Blatantly atheist, Matt blames the religious folk in his school for bullying his newly outed gay brother into killing himself. Much of the book takes place in Matt's mind, revealing his inner rants towards those he hates. And, quite frankly, it seems like he hates nearly everyone.The spark of light in his life is his girlfriend Hayden, although it is fairly easy for the reader to dislike her from the very beginning. As she grows in her faith, she puts distance between herself and Matt, becoming the epitome of the person that he so dislikes. Matt tells us that the two of them have been together for quite a while, that she greatly aided him in his recovery and emotional healing, that things used to be quite different between them. Good times are hinted at, but never actually shown. I personally felt nothing but disdain and resentment for Hayden. There was absolutely no ambivalence at all.Then there is Alexa, Hayden's ex best friend and an object of lust for Matt. Once again, it's quite clear to the reader that this is who Matt should really be pursuing. Although not a perfect person, she is quite perfect for him. A little too perfect, if you ask me. Her character is written to easily make us like and accept her, to make it especially easy for us to justify Matt cheating on Hayden.His parents are so bad it's almost unbelievable. His mother is detached and selfish; his father is punishing and volatile. Neither outwardly exhibits any remorse for their son's suicide or for their living son's struggle. The father is more concerned about reconnecting with his college girlfriend and his mother is more immersed in opening a boutique with her sister.All in all, Matt does not have good friends, nor does he have good family. It's incredibly understandable how he has grown to be so cynical, hateful, and just angry. Although I hated reading it, even his ongoing relationship with Hayden is understandable. Of course he doesn't want to let go of the one good thing in his life, or at least in his eyes is the one good thing.As all of Ellen Hopkins's other books, this is very well-written. However, I struggle to like it as I did all of the other ones. It's not that I find it boring or dragging or any other thing like that. It's more that the book's description led me to believe it was going to be about his struggle to overcome his family and peers, his struggle to discover his own faith, and his struggle to surmount the tragedy that has befallen him.Those struggles do happen, but the overcoming and the discovering and the surmounting do not. At least not until the very end. His moral questions and change of heart do not show up until the climax, which is roughly 30 pages from the end in a 560 page book. Intended to be a grey world, it is instead very black and white. There are Matt's versions of good and evil, and never once does he waver from these beliefs until a new tragedy forces him to.When he finally does have his questions, it is the result of a horrible accident. There is no question in my mind that his faltering would not have come about had it not been for an accident. Furthermore, people tend to be grateful for life after such an event and they do change, but sometimes just for a short while.By the time his questions and inner changes come about, they are so close to the end that they are unbelievable. They are especially not welcome changes as he has spent over 500 pages making us hate and resent the other people in his life and making us believe in the absoluteness of his views. The transition is much too sudden, rendering it fantastical. This element of falsehood is especially disappointing, as all of Ellen Hopkins's other books have left me breathless with the stark reality they portray.http://lackadaisicalperambulation.blogspot.com/

"Wow," is all I can say to this book.I am a huge fan of Ellen Hopkins. She is truly an inspiration. All the material she publishes is absolutely amazing and this one met my expectations to the highest level. This book takes you on a roller-coaster ride dealing with issues such as: suicide, PTSD, depression, beliefs, and trust in another person. It hits heavily on all of these topics in a mere 540 pages, yet still astonishes. The main character, Matthew, is completely relatable. While you may not have his beliefs on religion, he still has many flaws that anyone can attach to and find a similarity.In conclusion, this is definitely an amazing book written by and amazing author. This book sure delivers its, "I did not see that coming"s and "Woah" moments. This is a gem. I am sad that her next YA, verse novel will not be released for two more years, because this, like all of her fiction books, leaves me thirsty for more!

I love this book because I love Ellen Hopkins as a writer. She's one of my favorites, I'm part of her fan club, and her Crank saga is a must read for all young adults.The only downside to this story for me, is that it's about a young, troubled, white, handsome atheist. The character is flawed nicely, but as a female of color, it's a plot I've read far too often. Honestly, if this was a book written in another style, or by another author, I wouldn't have read it. It's a twisting book, interesting, and sometimes it gave me mixed feelings. I actually like that about the book. It wasn't predictable in a good way, although I've read characters in his stream so much in my life. I wish I could give it five full stars, but I can't.

I'm never disappointed when I pick up a book from Ellen Hopkins. I love the way she tackles hard subject matter straight on & with such reality & heart. This book was no exception. Well done addressing teen suicide, homophobia, religion, guns, break up of relationships & building new or stronger relationships. Can't wait to read her next one!

Where do i start other than saying i loved this book so so much and i don't regret buying it and will be reading more books from The author ( Ellen Hopkins ).This is a book about a teenager Matthew dealing with the aftermath of his younger brothers suicide who was bullied for being gay up until the point of suicide where Matthew found his body where he hanged himself. Also pilling on to this is his parents crippling relationship which was already fragile to begin with as they were forced to get married after his mother became pregnant with him. Also on this is his girlfriend Hayden ( who i hate so much) who is the cause of his brothers bullying as she told her friend about him being gay and she started the rumors which ended up as bullying and ultimately suicide.This story drove me to tears many times throughout the book and i loved the story and could not stop reading it.i loved the writing style which was easy to get into and made the book fly past while reading.If you didn't get that i loved this book from above i will say it again i loved this book so much.5 Stars

I found myself having to "make" myself read this book. It didn't grab me in the beginning like her novels normally do, but I kept going thinking somewhere in the middle it would get my attention. But sadly, it never did. However, there were some amazing feelings in this book and real emotion, and I really enjoyed how the main character was so strong minded. He was impressive.

Her books are absolutely amazing. I don't know how many authors like writing about controversial to topics but Ellen managed to put two major ones within the same story. I don't think that people realize that religion and homosexuality go hand in hand most of the time. I'm glad that she connected the two, especially since she is such a popular author. More people will read this and hopefully they will realize that nothing is easy when it comes to these two topics.
