I wasn't sure if this book was what I was looking for. I was overwhelmed when looking for a book about grieving. But this book has turned out to be just what I needed. After losing my mom/best friend my world was completely turned upside down. At the funeral you have family & friends to support you. But its the next couple months, when you're facing the reality that this person is really gone, when you need support the most. Everyone has moved on & you're just now realizing what's happened. THAT'S WHEN THIS BOOK HELPED ME THE MOST. It helped me see that I wasn't crazy & these emotions were actually normal. It was ok to be depressed. It was ok to experience anger. God made us to feel. God made us to experience grief when losing someone we love. It says that God will provide the stepping stones to get through your grief. I'm praying that God just helps me lift my foot to take a step. This book has been a great blessing & I know God lead me to it. I read my Bible too. But sometimes when I'm struggling, God will lead me to this book. It seems, no matter how I feel that day, there's a quick chapter on exactly what I need. I purchased the Audible version too. It's nice to sit back & be read to. I highly recommend this book. It will always be my gift to someone that's lost someone they love. I hope it helps them...and YOU...the way it's helped me. I never ever leave reviews but this book is so powerful that I felt the need to. Six months ago my husband and best friend of 15 years suddenly passed away. I am now raising our 3 kids alone. I am now a widow at 33 years old. This book has helped me deal with my grief and realize some emotions that I wasn't trying to deal with. Very quick chapters, 2-3 pages, that get to the raw feelings that we have with losing someone so close to us. No sugar coating the grief. Grief is painful and hard and difficult to navigate but this book has helped me not only turn my life over to God but help my mind and heart process the pain. Wonderful book and I have bought many copies for others going through this painful journey too.

Excellent book. This is the first book I got my hands on after losing my mom this year, and I can't tell you how helpful it was. The short chapters are ideal for those early weeks of grief, when your mind is clouded and you're just trying to survive one day at a time. Some days I'd read a bunch, and other days just one little (2-3 page) chapter in the morning. So much encouragement, reassurance and practical advice. The next time someone close to me experiences a loss, this book will be the first one I'll give to them.

Exactly what the doctor (or pastor) ordered. My father passed away in March and I am still using the book. I devoured it at the beginning, but now just grab for it when I feel the need. Written in such a manner that you can read whatever chapter you need at the time and be reminded that you will get through this. The book should be every pastor's repertoire.

When my husband died, this was the book that helped the most. Chapters are short (important!) and can be read in any order. They let you know that you are not crazy; your feelings are normal. I have given many bereaved people this book and all have said it helped.

This book on grieving is a great one for sharing, as well as for personal use as the need arises. I ordered several of these on behalf of a friend. When she learns of an acquaintance who has lost a loved one she offers them this book. It has short chapters dealing with the many aspects of grieving and loss, and many have returned to tell her how much the book meant to them. It comforts as well as tells you about feelings you might experience and the stages of grief. My friend said it helped her through the loss of both parents and again when her spouse died. So far she has had me order 10+ copies from the Amazon "used" market, and every one we've gotten has been just like new. Highly recommended

Let me start by saying that I haven't read this book. However, a friend of mine who was in the depths of despair after losing her mother, and who had been unable to find any comfort, told me that she just happened upon this book while browsing at a Christian book store. She said that it literally saved her life. So when another friend lost her child unexpectedly and was having an understandably awful time, I decided to purchase the book for her but I wanted to see the other reviews first. All of the reviews I read were glowing, full of praise for this book. In fact, the only "negative" reviews were that it was geared towards Christians which might be off putting if a person was a a non-Christian. As my friend is a devout Christian, this was a positive, not a negative because she was having a spiritual crisis. I felt that this book would be helpful to her as she worked through her grief.She told me recently that it is a wonderful book and she could not thank me enough for buying it for her. She says that she reads it a little bit at a time and meditates before reading another section.So based on two reviews from women who suffered terrible losses and found comfort in this small tome, I recommend it and rate it 5 stars.

I can't say enough about the healing aspect of this book. We all experience the death of someone close to us from time to time. When I lost the man I loved to cancer, a dear friend bought this book for me. She had her own copy, given to her for the same reason a few years earlier. The chapters are very short and easy to read and bring meaning to the loss and how to navigate through the pain. Every aspect of loss is covered with God being the central figure - and that in itself is what kept me going. It's not an overly religious book but that aspect of it kept me focused on the fact that God IS in control and cares about our sorrow and pain. I've had my own book for almost 5 years now. I just purchased two more which I gave to friends who recently lost a loved one. Once read, it becomes a tremendous reference book for quick pick-me-ups when needed because you can easily pin point the area of help you want. The book can be applied to any kind of painful loss.

Marieâ€™s books are always great reads. I usually pre-order them so Iâ€™ll have them right away. Iâ€™ve never been disappointed. I got acquainted with her when reading the Cobblestone Court series and have never looked back. I always feel I can picture the characters and feel what they are feeling. Sheâ€™s a wonderful writer, in my opinion.

I borrowed this book from the library, and liked it so much I ordered it from betterworldbooks, one of my favorite (or maybe favourite) sellers. Marcus Aurelius was Emperor of Rome, but still made time for deep spiritual reflection, pondering the mysteries of Man, God and the Universe. He wrote down his philosophy, for his own personal use, but his writings were later published as The Meditations Of Marcus Aurelius. The Spiritual Teachings consist of selections from the larger book, compiled by Mark Forstater. This editor was also associated with Monty Python! It seemed to me that Marcus' philosophy was a lot like Eastern thought, or at least the universal wisdom.I would certainly recommend this book to anyone; even though it's almost 1900 years old, it could have been written last week!

Forstater's book is either an uninformed and trivial glance at one of the masterworks of Western philosophy or a quick-and-dirty attempt to cash in on the self-help market.Forstater says, in the third paragraph of the preface, "Marcus Aurelius wrote a book of "spiritual exercises" for himself that was in effect the first self-help book ever written." This demonstrates that he never studied Epictetus's Encheiridion; the title itself meaning "ready at hand" or "handbook" in contemporary speech.This disappointing book is written in two parts. Part One, as said, is a trivial glance at the history and meaning of the Stoa. Part Two consists of some selections from the adequate, Victorian era translation by George Long. These selections have been transliterated into colloquial American with Forstarter's own subjective, subject titles and no references to the original work, such as "Med. XII.1."Save your money and download the G. Long translation from the net or buy the C. R. Haines translation from Harvard (Loeb Classical Library,) or even the Penguin edition.

I'm a big fan of the Duke Blue Devils and love Coach K and this book was a great read! It was enjoyable to read about Coach K through his players perspective.

This is a great book from different people's perspective that have been around Coach K. I'm a big Duke fan. I learned a lot of facts that I didn't know about Duke athletes. I actually go the high school that Grant Hill went to. I loved how they had a Duke book there that students can read!!
