I have a copy of my granddaughter's Algebra 1 textbook by McDougal Littel, but this workbook doesn't match up with it. They are different editions of the Algebra 1 book. I also expected more practice problems for added homework and tutoring, but although the workbook has an example of each topic, the practice problems are few. I guess it is O.K., but it was not very helpful for tutoring.

first chapter ripped out

This is a very nice workbook, but it does not appear to consistently challenge the higher concepts that can be the most useful for embedding the knowledge into the life and mind of the student. There is, however, only good that will come from using it. Plus the fact that it is priced so reasonably makes it a real plus!

I'm using right now to write lesson plans and to plan next week.I have the digital books and I had to buy resources. This is perfect. Actually, I've bought all the chapters I use in both semesters.1/10 of buying new from the publisher.

Great book, lots and lots of tests and the way to learn any math is through repletion and this is the way to so it.

I am a math tutor who works with students at many different levels. I recently bought this book to use with one of my students.I like this book because it matches each of the sections in the accompanying textbook. As the title of this workbook says, it is "practice workbook with examples" and there are indeed examples with each section.We are using this to supplement the work the student is doing in class (after completing the textbook exercises). I appreciate having extra work that correlates to the work he is doing in class.

i purchased this workbook and it indicates that the answer key was included however there isn't an answer key so if you are a novice at algebra like i am it doesn't help if you do not have the answer key to let you know if in fact you are grasping the concepts. i am very disappointed.

The book is cheap because it is missing 15 pages of answers! If algebra is new to you there is no way to see if you are correct. There should be a warning that the answers are missing.

I had originally said I was not going to read this book, I didn't know how well I would like it, and I don't tend to get involved with things that can make life at work harder for me. I literally work with the police, I am a dispatcher, so it is a huge part of my life. I knew going in it was revolved around the BLM movement, and police brutality and I made the decision to read it anyways. I had heard so many good things about it and I just needed to see for myself. First I want to say, it does not at any point in this book bash police officers. It talks about some of the problems in the world and how things happen but it never attacks or sets out to make them out to monsters. I really liked that because most aren't, they just aren't, they are humans. Now, Starr is the main character who is involved in a horrible tragedy that leaves her friend from child hood Khalil dead by an officer involved shooting. It was horrible and it was really sad. I hated reading it, I cried my eyes out, Thomas did such an amazing job of making a horrible action into beautiful fiction that made you feel like you were right there. I was so broken by this part of the story. Then reading later on into Starr's grief was just hard. I don't know any other way to describe it but there will be tears, so very many tears. That isn't it though, you see her as they have to fight the system basically, and you are with them through all those emotions. Going to the funeral and seeing his family, destroyed, his mother broken, knowing this isn't just something that happens in fiction, you cannot help but be moved. Now there was some real good in this book too, like some parts that I laughed until I cried. The scene when her parents are arguing in the middle of a prayer I have read an thousand times since finishing the book because it is the funnies thing I have ever read. Her parents were amazing by the way, her dad was an ex-con but he loved her, he admitted his mistakes but he was there for her. Their relationship was really touching to read because I have always been really close to my own dad. Then there was her mom, and her Uncle Carlos, who was actually a cop and lived in a really good neighborhood too. This was really refreshing to read because so many books, YA especially make parents out to be monsters that don't care, that aren't there for their kids. I mean it is like a troupe or something for these stories and it isn't actually the norm and gets annoying to read, so this book did an amazing job with the parents and family. All around though this story just floored me, it gave me a perspective I have never considered before, offered insights into a world I am not a part of, and I loved every minute of it. I don't know what it is to watch one friend die by violence of any sort, much less two in the time of my life and I am 26, she is a teenager. It is jarring to see that as someones existence when it is not your own. It taught me to open my eyes... I love it... Honestly I just wanted to pick it right back up and read it again.

Hated it.What a missed opportunity by the author to present a book that challenges misconceptions....ON BOTH SIDES. This book was completely biased and 100% anti-police. So biased I almost quit halfway through but persevered at 2.0X speed on Audible just in case there was some redemption by the end. Nope.Facts:-The fictional victim and his friend have to quickly leave a party WHERE SOMEONE IS MURDERED during a fight. This is the neighborhood at the center of the story. Itâ€™s extremely dangerous. (Note that the characters in the book donâ€™t ever discuss or consider that any police in the area that night are likely well aware that a shooting has just taken place at a party...and are probably a little on edge because of it)-The victim was a drug dealer and was, at a minimum, affiliated with active gangs. (Later, they downplay this fact with a story about how he is only doing it to help his Mom. Well, apparently his Mom also wanted him to get those new fancy shoes and jewelry.) Yes, it would not be possible for the policeman to know he was a drug dealer during the traffic stop. No, itâ€™s not directly relevant to the fact that he was shot. But again, context matters, and the context of this neighborhood is one where there are a relatively high percentage of gang members and drug dealers.-Once pulled over the victim was evasive and refused to answer basic, standard questions that are not unusual for a traffic stop (â€œWhere ya coming fromâ€ and he answers â€œNunya (business)â€. The policeman asked him to get out of the vehicle, he didnâ€™t immediately comply and was pulled from the vehicle.-The victim was unarmed-It was nighttime-The victim opened the car door and was leaning back inside while the policeman returned to his vehicle to check the ID-The policeman then clearly overreacted and shot him multiple times.The policeman overreacted. Yes. I think most people will agree with this. The problem I have with the book is the level to which he was proclaimed a Murderer with a capital M. The author doesnâ€™t understand what murder means.I canâ€™t imagine a more dangerous situation for a police officer. Itâ€™s nighttime. You are in an area that is known to be extremely violent. Any interaction is going to be possibly dangerous and potentially deadly. All facts that are so well understood by the characters in the story that they MOVE OUT OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD BY THE END OF THE BOOK DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS.So we establish that the neighborhood is unbelievably dangerous. We also establish that the victim did not deserve to die at any level. But we should also the say that a police officer during a traffic stop doesnâ€™t know a personâ€™s intentions. A police officer doesnâ€™t know who is in the car, doesnâ€™t know what they are going to do. Especially under these circumstances...It is reasonable for me to understand that a police officer thought his life was in danger when the the driver suddenly reached back into his car unexpectedly.The story was fine and the characters were mostly likeable. A lot of cliches. Bad writing (oh, the rose bush that the dad keeps tending to represents the family! ...Eye roll...)It was an easy read. But I was hoping for a book that would challenge preconceived notions on both sides. Total failure.At best, this is a book that should just be ignored. At worst, it is dangerous and furthers a broken mindset where police are the enemy. The central character is a hero at the end for throwing tear gas at the police? The police that are in her neighborhood trying to stop rioters from burning down businesses? Nothing in this book makes sense.

I have not yet made it to Mexico but when I do I will carry with me Mexico City Streets: La Roma by Lydia Carey! It is well written and offers a view of Mexico City that most guide books do not contain. Very readable and hope to share it with some of my Spanish-speaking friends, too!

This is a great book - a close description of a particular neighborhood - and its bi-lingual.

Most of what you read about Mexico's capital city is about the tourist highlights: what you see an experience in the corridor running from the historic center through Chapultapec Park. This great guide to La Roma dives deep and detailed into a hopping neighborhood that's accessible to that corridor but is completely devoted to its residents. Many of Mexico City's top restaurants and bars are here, but it's far further back on the gentrification scale than neighboring Condesa and still has a wide collection of shops that run the gamut from the strange to the utilitarian. That goes for the buildings too. Some from the 1920s made it through the last earthquake, many others were replaced by something blocky and dated.This "never know what to expect" aspect of Roma keeps things interesting, but makes it tough to figure out at first. This detailed guidebook breaks it all down into multiple sections and gives the best recommendations from the high end to the low end and all points in between. It's also filled with terrific photos in a wide range of subjects. If you you really want to "travel like a local," head to Roma and let this book whisper in your ear.

I have been reading guidebooks for over 50 years.....this is not only the most useful travel book I have read, but also the most enjoyable. Everything about it is perfect, from the choice of format to the organization to the choice of topics. I live in Roma Sur. My friends think I know everything about the area (not true); actually, I only know about 20 percent of what Lydia Carey so artfully presents to us in her book. It is obvious she loves La Roma, as I do, and she has researched thoroughly. I always find mistakes in guidebooks; I have yet to find an error in this one. So, not only do I highly recommend Roma as a destination, I recommend you enhance your stay by reading this guide. You won't be able to put it down! And, you may even consider this as a future home. Thank you, Lydia Carey!!!

This book was very helpful as I spent five weeks in Roma Norte. In a city with such amazing food it was awesome to have an expert opinion on the very best of the food and drink in Roma. The guide is worth it even for a short stay and if you are mostly spending time in the historic center, it will help you break out of there and get to a know another charming neighborhood. I was impressed with the range of recommendations like street eats, upscale restaurants, relaxing drink spots, bumping nightlife, and cultural sights. Thanks for the great guide Lydia!

BEST coffee table book! Being from the city, this is a true representation of the Mission. love love love it.

Could have been better

This book captures my barrio perfectly.

As a long-time San Francisco resident, I thought I knew the large, south-easterly neighborhood called the Mission pretty well. But Dick Evansâ€™ beautiful book of photography, The Mission, gave me much pause for reflection. Following technology surges, successive waves of hipsters have staked out the Mission as fertile ground for reinventing many norms, including what constitutes a donut and what goes into a cup of coffee (butter, apparently). They have touched but not really transformed the place, which is still diverse, and remains home to those with generations behind them--sometimes in the same building. Evansâ€™ focus on the kaleidoscopic murals of the Mission hone the readersâ€™ eye in on what has remained steady and even grounding in a place that in many ways exemplifies the jagged edges of historical collisions. Evanâ€™s photography has great clarity and power, and his subject choices make fascinating commentary and juxtapositions. I spent a long time reflecting on his photo of two â€œSisters of Perpetual Indulgence,â€ thinking about how San Franciscoâ€™s gay culture resonates with and enjoys the florid colors and display of some Mexican art. Not a natural pairing in any other way. The book brilliantly includes poetry by Vincent Medina and Deborah Miranda, highlighting the continued presence of Native Californians whose home here was violently appropriated by the Spanish colonial system for which the neighborhood was named. Juan Felipe Herraraâ€™s foreword is an extended enthusiasm. And photograph after photograph reveal and celebrate regular beauty right on the buildings youâ€™re walking past.

Love the book but it's missing Chuy Campusano's murals. The bank of America was on of the first large mural painted in the Mission and Chuy was a master muralist and one of the first artists to start the mural movement in the Mission. Our Son Andres and daughter Sandra Campusano work hard to keep his memory alive. Why was the Bank of America mural not included?

About the Author

Richard T. Wright is Professor Emeritus of Biology at Gordon College in Massachusetts, where he taught environmental science for 28 years. He earned a B.A. from Rutgers University and a M.A. and Ph.D. in biology from Harvard University. For many years Wright received grant support from the National Science Foundation for his work in marine microbiology, and in 1981, he was a founding faculty member of Au Sable Institute of Environmental Studies in Michigan, where he also served as Academic Chairman for 11 years. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Au Sable Institute, and the American Association for the Advancement Scientific Affiliation. In 1996, Wright was appointed a Fulbright Scholar to Daystar University in Kenya, where he taught for two months. He is a member of many environmental organizations, including The Nature Conservancy, Habitat for Humanity, the Union of Concerned Scientists, the Audubon Society, and a supporting member of the Trustees of Reservations. Wright continues to be actively involved in writing and speaking about the environment. He and his wife Ann recently moved to Byfield, Massachusetts, and they drive a Toyota Camry hybrid vehicle as a means of reducing their environmental impact. Wright spends his spare time hiking, fishing, golfing, and enjoying his three children and seven grandchildren. Dorothy F. Boorse is an associate professor of biology at Gordon College, in Wenham Massachusetts. Her research interest is in drying wetlands such as vernal pools and prairie potholes, and in salt marshes. Her research with undergraduates has included wetland and invasive species projects. She earned a BS in biology from Gordon College, a MS in entomology from Cornell University, and a PhD in oceanography and limnology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Boorse teaches, writes, and speaks about biology, the environment, and care of creation. An essay she wrote on climate change was recently published in a book by the Union of Concerned Scientists and Penguin Press. In 2005 Boorse provided expert testimony on wildlife corridors and environmental ethics for a congressional House subcommittee hearing. Boorse is a member of a number of ecological and environmental societies including The Ecological Society of America, the Society of Wetland Scientists, the Nature Conservancy, The Audubon Society, The New England Wildflower Society, and the Trustees of Reservations (the oldest land conservancy group in the United States). She and her family live in Beverly Massachusetts. She and her family belong to Appleton farms, a CSA community supported agriculture farm. They are also members of a newly established community supported fishery, Cape Ann Fresh Catch. At home Boorse has a native plant garden and has recently planted two disease resistant elm trees.

If you are looking to get this book for the Instructor's Edition, don't bother. The cover may say it is an Instructor's Edition, but the inside is identical to the student book. There are no answers to any questions, no helps, teaching aids, or anything that could remotely be considered of value to an instructor that is not in the student text. If you are looking for an inexpensive copy of the student text, this is the way to go.

I use this to teach Environmental Science to my Chinese student at Northwest University in Xian. This textbook is technical enough to be a viable classroom text, yet readable and interesting enough to hold the attention of all students of different abilities, including ESL learners. Every human being needs to know just how badly our earth is being damaged, and take part in reversing the trend of unsustainable systems that pollute and destroy the only ecosphere known in the universe; planet Earth. Well-recommended among the plethora of Environmental Science textbooks today.

Arrived in very good condition and faster than expected. Book is a good introduction to environmental studies and gives a good over-view of the ecology and the study of environmental issues. It outlines the concerns of the present with our over-usage of resources, our throw-away society, and the growing problems with pollution. It also covers some of the work being done to find other ways of managing our needs and balancing our demands with the needs of the planet.

Had to take intro into environmental science and the book was for 120 dollars, rented it for the semester for only 20!Clean new book, very helpful!

This book is thorough, and is fun to read, easy learning by being easy to follow

Not particularly well-written. Gets the job done but I didn't enjoy reading it like I normally enjoy textbooks. It should be more pleasant to read given that the information is not really advanced or technical.

Easy to read, great book for learning about our environment

The only criticism I have of this book is there is too much interesting information. Its difficult to figure out what your professor wants you to study when there is so much information. Great read though and gives for good explanations of the material it focuses on.
