I bought this as a gift, but now I want to keep it :o) The book is organized into sections (Growing Up, Bedtime Blessings, Talk to the Animals...) with an introduction by Julie Andrews to each (perhaps my favorite part). This is a wonderful compilation of many classic poems, many of which I'd never read before, and many that I was already familiar with. Julie Andrews and Emma have also included a number of their own poems based of their life experiences. They will make you smile if you are a parent or child :o) The watercolor illustrations are also beautiful. Expose your children to all types of artwork and prose and read, read, read!

What is not to like about Julie Andrews. This is an absolutely delightful collection of insightful, fun & informative poems & songs. And what a bonus to hear Julie & daughter recite poems alone/together on the included CD. Fun for the entire family! Highly recommend.

A lot to love here and re-read for years to come, but as with all books of poetry... i never like them all. What I did not like however seemed to be the minority of the book.

This is how we told our moms and dads that we are finally pregnant! Beautiful book and a wonderful two ladies who inspired to write it! We all have our own copy so hopefully these poems and lullabies will surround our baby with love!

Julie Andrews could read the want ads and make them sound exciting or soothing as a lullaby. She and her daughter have raised the level of my great love of nursery rhymes with their delightful choices for this book and their reading them for the CD. The illustrations are beautiful and add to the beauty of this wonderful book.

Although not an autobiography, much of Alfie's book follows his own path to fulfilling the goal of finishing a triathlon. He captures many of the ups and downs of training as well as the pride in having accomplished a difficult feat. Being involved with the Greenfield Triathlon, I enjoyed all of the local references in Greenfield and Amherst. It is required reading for all first time triathletes and even crusty old competitors will enjoy it.

I loved how this boy transforms his pain, loss and grief into something positive and life affirming. It is a story that has a message not only for young adults, but for anyone dealing with the struggles in life. I enjoyed the anecdotal stories woven in through the story of the boy's father. The author brings in some humor and shows the bond the siblings share through the letters written to each other. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it for all ages.

I really enjoyed the way each chapter began, with a memory or letter. The narrative was moving, thoughtful, and insightful. The author has either lived through many of the experiences in this book, or researched them well. I would absolutely recommend it!

The author told the story if his training for his first triathlon as he was telling the backstory of his father's life and death. Very well done.

This book is an extraordinary baring of the soul - raw, honest and moving. The result is a compelling and moving tribute to the endurance of the human spirit and the coming of age of a very fine human being. I was captivated from the first chapter and could not stop reading it. Thank you for such a lovely book Alfie Alschuler.

I had to come back and write this review because some of the negative reviews they're displaying on the main page almost talked me out of buying this book! Then I thought to myself.. "Man, who am I going to listen to? Some weak scrubs who took the time out of their day to write a poor review on Amazon OR a highly successful trainer who has been the go-to guy for some of the top basketball legends who ever played?"So I bought the book.BOOM! It nails it. I can relate to a lot of what he says. I've always known that there are just a lot of weak people out there that can't keep up or perform at top levels. That's not something to ignore and say "oh everybody is special in their own way" or "i'm sure he's a nice person so it's okay" - when it's time to perform you have to perform! End of story. This book is for the people who can (or at least have the desire and are working on being able to) perform at top levels. It goes into the mindset of a high achiever. It gives you permission to act the way you already know you want to act deep down inside. If you always listen to the weak people and their beliefs on how you should behave it begins to tame your inner beast! This book is a breath of fresh air in a world where there's an epidemic of mediocrity and conformity and weakness.

I’m happy I found this book the summer before my sophomore year of high school. I’ll tell a small story.I’m a small forward for the girls varsity basketball team at my school. I did in fact play varsity my freshman year not only lettering, but also starting 99% of the games(only not starting when I was “ineligible”).I started with four seniors, three of which had incredible talent. You can already see how I might have been a little intimidated.I like to think i have pretty good skills. I ended the season averaging about 7 points a game, when I was only supposed to be a fifth person on the court.( I know it’s not really that impressive). The entire season I struggled to maintain my dominance on the court always being pushed down by the seniors. It got to the point where I was yelling at my teammates and referees on the court. It left me somewhat scarred and unable to return to the game I had originally came in with.My mental game was destroyed even more than it already was. I have been repeatedly scolded by my couch in my summer league about my attitude and body language towards my teammates.It’s hard to change who you are. It’s hard to suppress your anger when your teammates have no interest in winning. Right now we are 0-6 in a freaking summer league. I’ve been told by every adult in my life that I need to be a leader, but how can you be a leader when nobody listens and your coach constantly shuts you down?This book has taught me that I don’t need to change who I am. I’m not broken. I’m not somebody who has to suppress their feelings to make everybody else happy. Tim Grover has written a book that tells people like me that who I am is my greatest asset. I should channel the anger I get while playing into my game. If my teammate misses a shot I should get the rebound and put it back up. If they turn the ball over I need to be the first one back on defense to stop the fast break.This book is a work of gold. It’s not a self help book if that’s what you’re looking for. It’s not going to give you step by step details of how to be the best. Grover explains his experiences training the best of the best and how he helped them get there. He gave us a blueprint for success and invited us to take the journey needed to make it. I highly suggest you purchase this book.Sorry if it’s a bit too TMI. I felt that I needed to really explain why and how this book impacted me. I hope that if you decide to purchase the book you succeed in whatever you’re striving for and I hope you’re ready to put in the work to make it happen.

Even though he makes examples and regency through basketball, these lessons holds true in every facet of your life. Why settle for less than excellence. Be relentless, nothing else. Be unstoppable at anything you set your mind to do. Be a cleaner.If after reading this book you don’t feel like everything is possible, every dream you hold so close to you is reachable, if these book doesn’t make you jump out your seat and run after everything you wanted to do, go see a doctor because there must be something wrong with you! I could barely sit down and read this book, I had to read it standing up because I couldn’t be still, it is that powerful. Go get yours!
