Schlichter, in “People’s Republic†and “Indian Countryâ€, gave us a future history scenario in which the red states and blue states split, with an action plot in each one.Here, there’s a different future scenario, with no split and no action plot. But the story, told as a look-back from 2040 after conservatives have regained power in the U.S., is really a prescription for what they ought to be doing right now to turn the political and cultural tide.There’s a lot to be done. How do conservatives take the initiative in court? On campus? In the media? In entertainment? How do they get public opinion on their side, countering decades of liberal indoctrination?In Schlichter’s fictional history (written around 2013), Obama’s two terms precede two terms of Hillary Clinton. Feeling her oats, she overreaches, giving conservatives openings. Some examples are real-world factual - Obamacare and increasing surveillance by the NSA. Others are plausible what-ifs, like President Hillary stacking the Supreme Court with liberal activists, trying to effectively ban guns, and resuming the “Fairness Doctrine†to censor broadcast news.Schlichter prescribes some surprising strategies:--Conservatives, he says, should support legalization of marijuana, to woo young and libertarian voters. Meanwhile conservative journalists must infiltrate the legacy media, broadcast and newspapers. Launch another conservative broadcasting outlet and make it more pronouncedly conservative than Fox.--Conservatives can use their power at state level many ways. They can force public universities into more diverse hiring and ending campus speech codes. They can pass combative conservative laws. They can rip pages from the liberal playbook, creating new anti-discrimination doctrines and then suing liberal government entities relentlessly to enforce them.The book reads like a documentary transcript, as various characters recount their experiences and views. Talk radio hosts, neighborhood activists, the chief of staff for the first conservative president, Congresspeople, businesspeople; Schlichter creates many voices.And he presents a diversely diverse diversity of conservatives - black Republicans, female Asian governors, and a gay Chinese broadcaster who’s that generation’s Limbaugh or Hannity. And one hilarious doper. These are people won over by conservatism’s message of freedom and self-responsibility.Schlichter fleshes out his story with a few dramatic events. Iran nukes Israel, and Hillary’s military response, the military gutted by her administration fails miserably, reminiscent of Carter’s Desert One fiasco.And her administration tries to ban guns in Texas, apparently not having read the bumper stickers that say “don’t mess with Texas.â€Schlichter’s triple-threat writing attack - he’s a retired Army officer, a lawyer and a stand-up comedian - keeps this lively and thoughtful. He loves comparing political war to the military variety he’s also familiar with. In the Army he used counterinsurgency tactics against jihadis in Iraq and Afghanistan. In his political what-if, conservatives must learn to do the opposite: to become insurgents, to fight a political guerrilla war.
Very different format than "Peoples Republic" Well writtten and lots of great ideas. The book gives the reader hope for the future. I got a good feel for the characters, without a ton of description and "character developement". In most books this would be a flaw, "Conservative Insurgency" this makes the books. The large number and diversity of the viewpoints made me think and opened vistas for me to explore. I HIGHLY recommend this book.
I liked some of the solutions his characters put forth that happened in their past. Some are very doable. Some not so much in my opinion. The main idea in this book is that basically everyday normal folks have an awakening and become politically intelligent and engaged. I pray for that day because I think most Americans are conservative at heart, they just won't admit it or won't think deeply enough about issues because it makes them uncomfortable. The elephant in the room that is not addressed here is what will the dependent welfare class do when the conditions and restrictions he describes are imposed? I can think of several scenarios and none of them are nice. But this book was well worth my time. It made me think and gave me some angles I had not considered.
In 2012/2013 some things were easy to predict. Other things not. The scenario works as political-science fiction. Can America be restored as a Constitutional Republic? The author provides food for thought while telling an entertaining story. He also shows that predicting the future, even a few years in advance, based on the consensus of the majority of political pundits is not always safe.
Excellent gift for your favorite person with working/firing brain cells (conservative or libertarian). Great story telling by Mr. Schlichter. Excellent read.
Great playbook on how to dismantle the liberal agenda. He was wrong however about Hillary becoming president. I hope Trump reads the book and starts to destroy the libs.

What a great book! First, I love that it's a story told in a series of short essays or vignettes. It's easy to put it down and come back to without needing to reread a bunch of pages to figure out where I was. Second, I also enjoyed the very plausible development of the story that came without all of the dire, end of the world scenarios so many other books of this genre often depend upon.Now I know the book will be hated by liberals but I'd recommend they try it if only to understand how we Constitutional conservatives think.For conservatives I recommend it because the book proposes a steady path forward to return our country to Constitutional order as opposed to the dictates of bureaucrats, unelected judges, and power-hungry leftist politicians.
