The author is a former teacher and principal and writes from the administrator's perspective. The text reads like a research paper, better organized and planned than many written by students, but larded with footnotes. The citations are listed chapter-by-chapter. The organization of material is good, presenting first a concept and then its implications for librarians. Workbook-style pages are liberally sprinkled throughout and range from checklists to fill in the blanks. The information reads like a manual for "How to Succeed in...." Many of the ideas presented seem banal, but might present new librarians with concepts they did not encounter in library school. Experienced librarians will find the ideas a rehash of journal articles and seminars. Library advocacy efforts were just beginning to accelerate when the first edition of Building Influence for the School Librarian came out in the middle 1990s. Many librarians had not yet given a lot of thought to how they could - or even if they should - deliberately go about changing the way others perceived them, their libraries, and their library media programs. About a third of that edition was devoted to the argument that they could and should build an influence base in their schools. Now, a decade later, library advocacy and librarian influence are leading edge topics in the field. I don't think it's any longer necessary to try to convince most readers that they should consciously set about shaping other people's perceptions of them and their programs. Consequently, instead of deeply investigating why, this edition much more concentrates on how school library media specialists can use what we know about workplace influence from research and theory to improve their own situations.

This book is very helpful if you are planning on becoming a librarian. Very helpful tips are given about how to advocate for the library and how to deal with administrators. Actually, school administrators in general could benefit from this book.

Dr. Hartzell, who has never been a school librarian, may just be the biggest fan of school librarians. By writing this book from the viewpoint of a school administrator, he very carefully outlines the influence and power the school librarian has...if she chooses to claim it. He also details how the school librarian can take this influence in the school and turn in it to a powerful advocacy for school libraries. In a very nice way, he tells us what we are doing wrong(or what we may not know to do) and then he maps out what can be done to correct it. I love solutions and he gives us many. This book changed the way I thought about school libraries and what they can do for schools.

This book popped up when I did a search for "polymer clay." The flowers looked pretty and realistic, so I bought it. Only when I received it did I find that she's working with RESIN clay -- a kind I have no experience with, and I'm happy with my polyclay and don't want to start over in another kind. The projects may be possible in polyclay, I haven't tried, but I wish it had been more obvious this is not the clay I work with and have invested quite a bit of my crafting budget in stocking up with.Any advice from resin clayers on the difference between resin & poly? Please leave comments for me if so. I know that resin clay air dries and some of it must be mixed, like liquid resin. Other than that, are the 2 clays similar when you work with them?

Lovely to look at but the photos are so small as to not be as instructional as larger, more clear photos would be. Most of these instructional photos are about 1” x 1.5” and that’s very small for instructions. However the small size does allow for more photos in the book. And, as others have said, changing to B&W in the back of the book is disappointing, especially when there is not enough contrast in the photo.That said, it IS detailed and one should be able to follow along, especially if you already have some clay experience. A beginner might be frustrated.

I am so happy that I bought this book. This book is packed with awesome tutorials and tips for making clay flowers. I bought it to use with polymer clay as many of the ideas and tutorials can be done there too. But this book could be adapted for gum paste, sugar paste, fondant, polymer clay, air dry clay, cold porcelain, and more!

Amazing details in this book, I haven 't made anything from it. But it has clear instructions on how to make each flower. The only thing I wish it said on the book cover is that you don 't use polymeric clay. She uses resin clay.

The book came very dirty, not sure it’s because of packaging or delivery problems. I had to use lots of tissue papers and wasted about 5-10 mins to wipe off all the dirt on the outside plastic wrap. Haven’t opened the plastic wrap but the book looks clean through it.

I make clay flowers as a hobby and use Miyai's two Clay Art books, as well as this one as references. This book has lots of photos that show step by step how each flower is created. There are some crucial steps missing, but I kind of expected that, since that is the case for Miyai's two books also.My one question: What the heck happened to colored photos?The book starts out beautifully with lots of colored photos showing the flowers, arrangements, and steps...only to suddenly have black and white photos for the last 30-some pages. What a let down!

I also make clay flowers and have another book by the same author.They are very informative and quite nicely presented. However, I agree with the last post ie: what happened with the color pictures at the last few chapters??? The book has some lovely color photos of finished works and also much of the step by step instructions are also in color...then, everything changes to black and white photos. Could this be a flawed edition or was that the intention of the books designers? Seems very odd to me that 3/4ths of the book would be in color and the last 1/4 in B&W...a bit disappointing.

I love the projects for this book. I was looking for something for polymer clay, and at first I was disappointed that it was not the type of clay that the book talks about. However, some of the techniques work on polymer clay, but using air dry clay makes more sense for the projects here.

My kids (2 & 4yrs) adore their Me Readers. They love books, and this way they can read stories to themselves, even when the grown ups are busy. My mom/teacher opinion is that they're a great idea, simple to operate (a 3 yr old can use these unassisted), and I'm all in favor of encouraging the kids to read lots of books! My only complaint, and the reason for 4 stars, not 5, is that the stories are way oversimplified. For 3-6 yr olds, presumably the target age range, they could have included a little more text per page and slightly broader vocabulary. I wish there was a slightly more advanced version of this, without going all the way to a nook or kindle where you have to deal with blocking internet access.

We have 2 other sets similar to this one. One of Thomas and Friends and one of Sesame Street characters. This one was eagerly awaited but the volume of the narrator is quite low and difficult to hear. Do not know if there is any way to increase the volume.

My niece's baby loves these books. She's only 2, but she loves following along with each page and can do it all by herself, so this is a terrific set of books/toy that keeps her busy for awhile. And I do think these books will really accelerate her reading skills.

Bought this after a family member got my 2 year old the Thomas version for his birthday, and he saw this one advertised on the back of one of the Thomas books. (Isn't that always the way? We ended up with extra Little Golden Books that way too haha) He loves Jungle Book, Pooh and Nemo, so he was thrilled. He asks to read these books every day for his nap and bedtime. He's gotten very good at finding and pushing the right buttons.

We have this produce with a different set of Disney books and it has worked for years. I was saving this as an activity for my 4y/o son while we were on vacation - so I missed the window to return it. When we started to play with it two of the buttons were broken, therefore it doesn't read two pages of the story to him! The concept of independent reading is fantastic but the let down is that ours was broken.

The reading portion had scratches on the stickers...as though oreviously used. The buttons don't all work either. If you push the dalmation button, the peter pan story plays. It skips pages as well, too... even if you push the correct button.I've purchased other versions of this product from other vendors and we LOVE me-readers... but this particular set, or our particular box, is complete monkey junk.

My grandchild was thrilled to receive this package of story books that she can read along with. Especially loves Peter Pan.

My daughter has abandoned her tablet for these books. They are interactive and a great learning tool as well. Also, they are really nostalgic for me because I grew up on these classic Disney tales!

If you like suspense thrillers that keep you on the edge of your seat and you just can't put down; you MUST read the "Left Behind Series" by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins!When I began reading this series my life was changed...I never could read a book and finish it before. However, Book 1, "Left Behind," started me on a road to reading. Unbelievable! I could not put the books down; and then I couldn't wait to get to the next book (you do need to read them in order so you don't get confused or lost.The first book in the series moved a little slow for me; but after that BAM! The following books moved quickly. In fact, I was reading a book a week and that was a miracle for me because prior to starting this series I had only read one other book straight through in my lifetime.I think what made these books even more thrilling than most is that this series is based on the truths of the Scriptures and the prophecy of the Bible. The writers, Tim LaHaye & Jerry B. Jenkins, took the prophecies that point to the time we are living in now and what is to come. They layed them out in a way so that you can envision the days ahead for the planet Earth and it's people. So exciting!I FIRST READ THESE IN THE 90'S and WOW! It's amazing to watch these prophecies unfolding in the daily events in the World around us. The reality of the media news fills our days with tradgedies and violence beyond our imaginations. The good news is that in the midst of it all, after reading these books, we can see the way to hope for a better day. I know you will not be disapointed in these books.The MOVIE versions did not do the books justice and were a big disapointment. The books in this series just get better and better. I found myself actually frightened at moments and so disturbed by what I read that I had to step back for a bit. That's a sign of excellent writing! The bad guys are so terribly bad and the evil is not candy coated. That's why it was hard for me because things said and done by the characters were very offensive. Now that is not a bad thing considering who the characters are and if this is to be true to life, then yes that evil would prevail to the point that very offensive behavior and talk would take place. One thing is clear in these books, the battle between good and evil won't be watered down in real life and it isn't here. But it is still respectful and sympathetic to the reader so no worries. All these qualities make a very exciting story. I find myself reading the books so fast I have to make myself slow down and pace myself. No point rushing a good thing. If you are thinking about reading the Left Behind Series, start at the beginning and get ready for the ride of your life.

By using the word DRAMA I do not mean for anyone to deny the authenticity of this engaging text. The two men responsible for these books are inspired by GOD. Truly they take some of the most confusing scripture in the Bible and make it not only understandable but also fascinating engaging and provocative- not in an immoral sense but in a sense of giving us an inspirational incentive to see all we know saved. With the salvation of all we know becoming our primary goal, we will be more prepared than ever after reading this book and the rest in the series as well as the Left Behind series which maintains the same integrity with a different point of view and additional details.

Things are really coming to a head. I am having a hard time putting the books in the Left Behind series down at this point. The Mark turned out to be very touching towards the end. I couldn't imagine having to witness the beheadings of innocent Christians dying simply for what they believe. Though the description in the book was so touching it gave me chills!I only have one complaint concerning the Left Behind series...it has already cost me over a hundred dollars and it would be more if I had purchased the books in paperback or hardcover form. . This is a minor issue, though.

Love this series. One thing I would like is to be able to order the book in either paperback or hard cover and also be able to download to my kindle. That way I have the hard copy for my library and yet still be able to read it on my tablet. Right now I'm having to make two purchases, one for the hardcopy and another purchase for the kindle download.

If you believe in Christ our Lord and enjoy reading the Bible then you will enjoy reading all the books in these segments. Written by Christian writers helping us through the Bible. We actually don't know all that God has planned for us but these tales are very interesting and enjoyable to read. We do know that what is written in the Bible is true and all words were inspired by the Lord. Please do enjoy reading all these books written for any ages. God Bless
