Other agencies do not have that same business model. But realistically, unless you are rich - say $10 million plus - and look younger than your age, it is a fool's errand to go to Ukraine looking to get a wife who is more than 30 years' younger than you. Moreover, the reason that women go to the sites is economic. That does not mean that a successful marriage is out of the question, but anyone who thinks it is a love match should think again. The modern Mecca for this swindle is the Ukrainian Black Sea port of Odessa, hence the book's name. What's interesting is that the author is equally unforgiving in painting a rather unflattering profile of the types of clients who engage the services of Odessa's agencies, such as Anastasia, the one whose program he participates in. Ranging from a lecherous Scandinavian pilot, to a sheltered American Midwestern farmer, to an over-the-hill Italian plastic surgeon, and others, they universally cite their longing for mates with "traditional family values" as their motivation for being involved with Anastasia. Yes, the irony of expecting to find someone with these values willing to date strange foreign men, leave their own families, and move halfway around the world based on just a few online chats and chaperoned "dates" escapes them. This is indeed a sordid business where each party is the swindler and the mark, often at the exactly the same time. Quite eye opening!
