I really expected more from a book that only profiles two items. I was having trouble finding information on abalone and decided to purchase this book hoping that there would be some information I could glean from the abalone pearl section but it was meager.

All the best book's of gems,jewelry and stones with lot's of info and pictures.With out it, it's like a movie sound only, no picture.

What a thoroughly researched book! Just love all the photos and examples. It doesn't get much better than this...

I have most of Renee Newman's books, and they contain good information. I've bought her Pearl Buying Guide 3 times, because the pearl information is updated each time with new types of pearls. I bought Exotic Gems 4 because I just inherited some jade and wanted to know more about it. This book is mostly about jade. There are only a few pages about abalone pearls, so if you are interested in pearls, buy her Pearl Buying Guide instead.My only complaint about this book is that the kerning (character spacing of the printed words and letters) is very squashed together, which makes it difficult to read. Letters run into each other. Words run into each other. The first letter of one word may actually be closer to the last letter of the previous word, then a space, then the rest of the word. Also, I think it needed a bit of proofreading, as there are some very clunky sentences, and some errors on photo captions.

This book makes it a little easier. It is also very underrated and this puts it in the spotlight for a while. Gain an appreciation for a gorgeous green (or purple, or black, or white) gem!

About the Author

Jack London was born in San Francisco on January 12th 1876, the unwanted child of spiritualist and music teacher, Flora Wellman. He was raised by Virginia Prentiss, a former slave, before rejoining his mother and her new husband, John London. Amazon seems to be lumping all different editions together in the reviews so it is impossible to know which edition you are reading about. Had it been clear that THIS printing was awful, i would not have purchased it. This has a brown cover with a picture of London on it. It was about $3. I received it today, and it is obviously a cheap home print job--thin, barely laminated cover, weird size (about 6x8"), very thin (entire book crammed into 45 pages). I bought it for first of three kids to read for school; this is not something I want to keep on my bookshelves for a while. It's a classic; I want a halfway decent copy. Child will continue to read it on free Kindle edition for now, and I'm ordering a new copy from a "known" publisher. Don't buy this one--

Beware...bought this because my 6th grader has to read it for school, thought he would enjoy an illustrated version. The issues...this book looks home made and for some strange reason the illustrations are all photos of artwork of naked ladies...not pictures from the story about DOGS!!!! The font for the story is literally all different sizes and and the layout is crazy. Really really surprised and disappointed!

Beautiful story of a dog, Buck, who is a St. Bernard from his father's side a sheep dog from his mother's. Throughout the story Buck proves that he is a dog like no other. His grit and tenacity see him sail through the worst treatment that can be wrought by man on animal. (Warning:If you have a pet or if you are an animal lover it might prove extremely challenging to sail through many parts of the book). Just when Buck finally finds a master who he dearly loves and is loved, he hears a call, the 'call of the wild'. He knows that he cannot ignore the call.This is a slim volume, can perhaps be read in one sitting if you have some time. I had not imagined that such a book would keep me riveted, for it is not about mystery,suspense, adventure or action. It is about a dog! No wonder this is a classic.(if you plan to read the book, feel free to skip the rest of this below)The Alaska Gold Rush of late 19th century (1896 or so) attracted something like 100,000 prospectors, mostly from the San Francisco/Seattle areas to the Yukon region.Well cared, healthy, powerful dogs attracted unheard of premiums. This prompted a greedy gardener to kidnap his employer's dog and sell it off to work the sleds. While being transported from sunny Santa Clara Valley, Buck changes many cruel hands, however his last tormentor is particularly vile. He clubs Buck to pulp leaving him clinging to life. The experience infuses a steely character in Buck. While anything could break his body, nothing could break his spirit.Buck has to fight many competitors to finally establish supremacy of the pack.His masters recognize his remarkable character and reward him by according him the pride of place, to lead the pack. Demands of transportation make the dogs overworked, underfed and exploited, Buck included. He, like the rest of his pack is reduced to skin and bone. He is sold to ignorant but cruel masters who continue the exploitation, but Buck would have none of it. His greatness is recognized by a camper who adopts him and then begins Buck's wonderful life. He regains everything he had lost and seems even more virile and strong than the best of past times. Buck serves his master, even helping him add to his fortunes. When everything seems hunky dory, something tells Buck his place is in the wild. When the call of the wild is received it does not go unheeded.Meanwhile his master and associates are killed by native Indians.Trust Buck to take revenge and kill them all, establishing his superiority over even man himself. After this inflection point and after having lost his beloved master, Buck is even more convinced that his place is in the Wild and he returns to it, as if he had belonged there all the time.

This reissue of a London classic has some editorial revisions, according to the publishers, but retains the authorâ€™s voice and ability to portray the untamed frontier of his day. For a reader who wants to be introduced, or as in my case, reintroduced, to a classical American literary figure, this book is an excellent jumping off point. The characters, though animal, are portrayed in terms that humans can understand, but without â€˜humanizingâ€™ them.This book shows why Jack London was one of the most regarded authors of his time. Everyone wants to make money online, but there are so many options that most people just end up confused. "Passive Income" cuts through all of the fluff and outlines four of the best models for starting an online business, presenting the material in a straightforward manner that helps you choose the right direction for you. This is not a big book, but it does a great job of covering the basic information you need to pick your model and start moving forward.

It's a little discouraging and very Amazon-centric. What it does do, is encourage more research.

A great introduction to four different passive income streams. I learned about one new one and about some business research tools I haven't come across before.

I guess this would be good for others just not what I was looking for.

This book and the "LEED Green Associate V4 Exam Practice Tests" by A. Togay Koralturk were the two best guides I used in passing the LEED Green Associate Exam. This book in of itself would have been enough to pass and coupled with Togay Koralturk's book makes it a walk in the park. I have a boat load of certs and this certification exam is by far the easiest I have ever taken. I have zero experience in construction and have never worked in the industry, I'm an IT guy and I scored a 190 out of a possible 200 on the exam. If you want to sit the exam, this is a great purchase!!

I used this as my primary reference, read through twice before attempting the review questions and practice exams, then carefully went through the document and all "flash-card" tests, end of chapter quizzes and the 100-question exam at the end of the book.I augmented this source with the LEED GA Mock Exams publication by Gang Chen.Carefully reviewed questions and researched my incorrect answers each time. The two days prior to the exam, I took the 100-question test in this publication a second time, and took two tests in the Chen book. The strategy worked, I passed the exam with a good score.

This book has everything you need to know about the LEED Exam, in the most blunt and no nonsense way possible. Great study tool, has all the important vocab per subject, as well as quizzes throughout the book, and an exam at the end. Made studying a million times easier, and for a remarkable price! Itâ€™s a must buy, this has been the most helpful resource I have come across by far.

This book is only good if you've already taken a comprehensive course & want to test your memory as there are quizzes & tests for each chapter. Despite the descriptions given in each chapter intro, there is no detailed information given in the text. The level of detail in the text WILL NOT adequately prepare you to pass the LEED GA Exam.This is DEFINITELY a case of getting what you pay for.

This book is awesome. I had taken the leed GA exsm the first time and failed. I was reading 6 textbooks and was so confused at the end of the day. Bought this book and sat for the exam in less than 2weeks and i got a score of 181 (the pass mark being 170). I recommend anyone studying even for the new leed GA v4 to use this material. It saves time!

I was skeptical, but this little ten dollar book really got me acing the GA exam! I read it on my phone commuting to work, supplemented it with two other mock exams I got from work, took some initiative to look up a few things online (eg. mnemonic devices for memorizing standards, LEED scorecard, etc), and I ended up spending about two weeks studying. Tip: the book is a very concentrated distillation of the other material out there, so don't take any one sentence for granted. Seriously, the most efficient way to study for this test.

It's true that the basics are very well explained and to the point. It's a great tool to begin with before taking in any more detailed material. Compared to other guides in the market, the smaller price should make it a must for anyone wanting to be successful at their exam. My only problem (and why I didn't give it the five starts), is that the contents page has not been made accesible through the "go to" option. This makes it a bit more difficult to navigate. Other than that, very satisfied with the purchase.

Recommended it to other people. They all like it. I used it to pass the exam.

I like the book. It has a lot of helpful ideas - especially for those of us who are vegan or don't do dairy, and who pay attention to food combining (even a small amount).We ended up with a handful of "go to" recipes, that we always go back to. I think if you actively shopped for smoothie ingredients constantly, you might have better success... however, since we typically just "suddenly feel like a green smoothie", we never seemed to have all of the right ingredients for many of the smoothies.We never became fans of the "puddings" or some of the more exotic recipes. Some of the recipes leave one to guess at how much a "piece of aloe leaf" really is. We guessed wrong and had a hilarious time trying to suppress the gag-reflex. It was worth it, but I've never tried to puke so hard in my life ( aloe can stimulate the gag reflex).Overall a great book, but we only use a small amount of it, hence the three stars.

I like this book. It was certainly worth the price for me because I wanted it for recipes which it has plenty of. It also has a fair amount of background information and cautions. Vitamix includes it in some of their blender packages. Boutenko waits until page 53 to tell you that you really should have powerful blender like the Vitamix or Blendtec if you want to get the benefit of using the peels of fruit such as mangoes without burning up your blender. But, there are two things I would like to have included. One is a nutrient analysis of the recipes -- ideally as a percentage of a daily allowance, not mg or IU which would require mutiplication and/or long division to convert to daily allowance. Sure, I can use a diet analysis program on a computer, but then so could she and saved us readers a lot of time. I would have paid a couple of dollars more for that information. The second thing I would have liked is an index of sorts. I wound up making my own keyed to ingredients. Kale is found in six beginner recipes, but they are separated by several pages. Since greens are one ingredient she cautions to rotate -- not to use the same green day after day -- why not provide an index if she didn't group the recipes by a key ingredient.

If you are thinking about adding fruit & vegetable (green) smoothies to your diet, or if you already drink green smoothies but need some variety in your smoothies--then this may very well be the (recipe) book for you. It's a great recipe resource that has re-energized my desire & intention to drink green smoothies by adding a great deal of variety to the smoothies I make. And it's all compiled in single source book that I now keep in my kitchen and refer to several times a week.As a disclaimer, I am NOT a person that only eats raw foods, nor am I a vegetarian or vegan. A lot of the information regarding fruit & veggie smoothies seems either naturally suited for the raw-fooders/vegies/vegans, or at least inherently pointed in their direction.Don't get me wrong... I like fruits, greens, and veggies. I am just not slavishly attached to the (food) ideologies that often seem to swirl around the 'literature' of the healthy-eating proponents. I also eat chicken, red meat, and seafood. That said, I am a 'quiet fan' of green smoothies. I feel great after I drink green smothies, and drinking them has really improved my health--and my body really likes them. Now that my body is used to green smoothies, I can tell that my body is almost anticipating the smoothy as I am making one.The downside of drinking green smoothies regularly is that the green smoothies themselves can become very monotonously repetitive. So this book is a fantastic recipe resource; it has injected the 'spice of variety' into the healthy habit of drinking green smoothies. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that is either new to green smoothies or currently drinks them. And I have put my money where my mouth is... When friends express a genuine interest in green smoothies, I simply send them a copy of this book.Great resource and great 'bang for the buck'--and for a healthy habit that tastes good.Proof positive that one can enjoy the recipes without 'joining the revolution'.

Good basic information about "green smoothies", and the benefits of drinking them. The book educates without going into a lot of arcane detail, although some may wish for more technical, "science-y" content (for which I myself do not care). Given the low price of the book (I bought the paperback), you really owe it to yourself to investigate this method of increasing your greens intake significantly. Lots of tasty, easy to prepare recipes, mostly with ingredients that are available in most markets (my recommendation: obtain locally grown organics exclusively, if you can manage it). You will learn quickly that you need to plan your menus ahead very specifically, to obtain your fresh greens, veggies and fruits/berries at least weekly, so as to minimize or eliminate any wasted purchases, and support consistent daily consumption. If you can "grow your own", more power to you, but most urban dwellers will want to acquaint themselves with a good market that provides a consistent supply of local organics, such as PCC (in the Seattle/Puget Sound area, where I live), or farmer's markets/co-op's, for example. Overall, the author does not get preachy, but instead assumes you are intelligent enough to see these benefits, and are motivated to incorporate them into your life. Didn't read any of the "testimonial" stuff though; as with all lifestyle changes, your results will vary. :-)

This was well written and the storyline was great. A thrilling story featuring very interesting characters. The tension stays high from start to finish. Keeps you wondering who did it. The world of main character Jillian shattered, her longtime relationship fell apart and in the meantime she has to deal with a killer that made her town unsafe for women. She needs to find the killer not only very quickly but she had to do it with a team that was not very happy with her. Gradually, she was able to gain the support of her team and also to win back the heart of a gorgeous woman. The final twist was unexpected and I hope that the sequel is on the way. My advice, read it!

A tough, gritty murder mystery story. I liked that this wasn't a "lesfic romance novel", rather focused on the murder mystery. I also liked how the author showed the relationship issues of the main protagonist & , police for that matter, with all the odd hours and the stress dealing with the bad guys.

I think i was a little surprised by this one. Having read quiet a few of the author's works to date i found there were some expectations and some things i was taking for granted, the ending, the style perhaps and a feel to the storyline. But this was a bit of a surpriseGrowing up in the 90's in the Uk you would know all of those gritty detective shows, where nothing is ever really simple, and if the good guys do win in the end sometimes it doesn't feel like a win. its so dark yet seductive no matter how many times we see it. This novel seemed to capture that mood well. A killer, preying on women, and a copycat killer. A nightmarish scenario for a detective whose own life seems so hard, so emotionally fraught with personal issues while she tries to keep her mind on the hunt.It sounds like there could be another book, maybe more in this one. and its one for those of us who watched all those detective tv shows and thought wow, is this going to end happy? you know it wont but you just have to keep looking anyway.

I thought this was a great book. I loved the characters and the ability that Shiralyn has to keep your interest peaked to the point you should be sleeping but you just have to know. I cannot wait to start the second book!!

I loved this book and cannot wait for the next installment! It is a well written book and a page turner. My only question (a VERY picky and minor point) - was the makeup Channel or Chanel? Since I'm in the US, I assumed it to be a UK thing! LOL. Nonetheless, I enjoyed this book completely and am hoping that the next installment appears quickly! Shiralyn Lee, are you listening? Please write it faster! :)

This was a good book. It held my interest. Always like women in important leadership roles. I will definitely continue reading this series.

Really enjoyed this book. Great story line and was detailed very well. It had enough going on a long the way to keep me interested. It is hard for me to finish a book if I loose interest or get bored with it. Not the case with this one. Would recommend to any who like detective type stories. Can't wait to read the next one to see what happens next.

I really enjoyed reading this book. A good detective story with just enough romance thrown in for good measure. It kept my interest and was happy with the outcome. First time reading anything from this author but it will most definitely not be my last.
