I'm surprised this book got such great reviews, but I guess I should have read said reviews before purchasing as it would have told me what I needed to know or should have known...This IS a good book! Very interesting short stories, HOWEVER, "short" being the key word. Each story is only about 2 pages of very easy reading. I appreciated this to some extent, as I've had a hard time digging in to a book for fun lately (I'm an attorney). But, I guess I was just yearning for a bit more. I would have enjoyed this book more there were less stories, but more info presented on each story that was included To the author's credit, there is a list for suggested further reading following each section (approx. 3 titles to pursue with regard to each story presented).This book would probably be appropriate for a high schooler, but I wouldn't recommend for much younger audiences, as most of the stories have to do violence, death, and drugs!

I pretty much read this in one sitting and was dismayed to get to the last page and I immediately checked to see if there was another one. It told me incredible things I never knew, about important historical events and characters; to a history junkie with a taste for a good story this is the purest smack

What a wonderful book. It was a quick pick-up since the chapters are only a couple of pages long each. Definitely something to look at if you are interested in some unique untold, or under told, stories.

A collection of little known stories from history that are quite fascinating. I believe the book contains 25 stories so they're all short, fun reads.

A collection of vignettes about moments in history you probably never knew. Most are 4 pages in length and are as easy to read as they are entertaining.

Gave this as a gift but read it myself first. A fun, excellent read. Like going down an internet wormhole, but in convenient book form.

In Bourbon the author connects the political history of America to bourbon, discussing the recent failed "Bourbon Summit" with Obama and McConnell and outlining why Thomas Jefferson's Whiskey Tax Repeal was not a popular move. Bourbon is every bit of an American history book as it is a bourbon history book. There are no tasting notes, but the photography, illustrations, and sidebars break up the narrative into an easy-to-read book. You can as easily flip through it and read the captions and sidebars to get the gist of the book. It's extremely interesting. I pre-ordered the hardcover and was offered the Kindle edition for a few dollars more. For a couple of extra bucks you get both (bonus to have on hand for the beach and one for the coffee table).

I am a bourbon enthusiast, and I enjoy reading Fred Minnick's reviews on Whisky Advocate. This book, however, suffers from a few serious issues:1. The first part of the book attempts to reveal the individual who first created bourbon. The longer Minnick presents his various cases, the more I felt the topic was irrelevant. Rather than focus on a potential who, it would've been far more interesting had he focused on the hows and whys of the nascent industry.2. The majority of the rest of the book shows a lot of solid research. It is packed with facts and other historical data, but does little to personalize a personality-heavy industry. More background on ours Lee Brown, a giant in the industry, would have been colorful. Pappy Van Winkle's story also makes for great reading, but was sorely lacking.3. The last part of the book, which Chronicles Bourbons fall and rebirth, is the best part of the book. Gone are the dry numbers and constant discussions of various tax schemes, and the reader can enjoy find it tales about scrappy brands and larger than life master distillers. It's a shame more of the book was not written in this vein.

Great Book! I read it pretty quickly and enjoyed the different sections. The historical part wasn't too long and will suffice for most, if you want a deep dive you can get another book. I actually got two other book on bourbon. I liked the tasting section also and how to train your nose and taste buds. It helps you to understand how some descriptions come to be. If you want a first book on this American Wiskey I think this is the one.

The majority of the book is quite dry with lots of numbers and facts, long-winded arguments about who invented bourbon, and the various intricacies of prohibition. The last half of the book is quite a bit more interesting, however, and I would still recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn a bit more about the history of bourbon. Also wasn't a fan of the side stories that broke up the chapters and interrupted the flow of the book.

Fred Minnick has compiled in one volume an erudite approach to the history of bourbon. Impeccably researched, he is not afraid to blaze new trails of discovery in things like "who is the father of Bourbon". The book is dense, rich, and demands to be read and reread. It is a must for anyone interested in getting the advanced course in bourbon whiskey and the people who have shaped it into what it is today. I recommend the hard cover book as it is beautifully put together. Something gets lost in translation to the kindle version. Its not as pretty to look at. Keep up the great work Fred!

My wife and I just completed our tour through Kentucky on the Bourbon Trail and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Like my interest in driving American cars, I decided it was time to change from gin to Bourbon and haven't looked back. Enjoy this excellent book.

This book was well researched and written, overall I thought it enjoyable of a little too similar to texts books in some regards. I think a slightly less academic presentation would have made it more readable.Also I don't care for the mini reads that take up 2-3 pages in the middle of a chapter, put that stuff out of the way so they don't break into the flow of the reading.I enjoyed it and have already recommended it to friends.

Always interested in Bourbon, since discovering J.R. Dant some years ago.This book took a well covered look at the Bourbon story, history and futureprospects, and left me very thirsty. It inspired me to search out data onparticular brands, and sources for same.I am happy to have discovered it, and have gifted it to a friend whom I thoughtwould enjoy it as well.Bar.

There are not enough words to express my love for this book.I was diagnosed in August 2015 (at the age of 44) with ADD. It was the missing puzzle piece that finally made my life start making sense. A couple of months later, I began medication. Skeptical at first, I soon realized that it made a HUGE difference in the way my brain functioned, it actually started functioning like I'd wanted it to my entire life!! Problem solved, right???!Wrong. As some with ADD understand, and I quickly realized, there is no "Fix" to ADD. It just IS. I struggled for several months, going from elated back to frustrated. I mean, I was diagnosed, I was on medication, wasn't life just supposed to "click" now?In February 2016, someone suggested I read "Focused Forward" by James Ochoa. At the time, I had several books: How to Clean Your House, How to Organize, How to How to How to. So, I thought "Hey, what's one more book?". I will forever be grateful for the suggestion.As an adult with ADD, reading is hit or miss. If it's a Great book, I'm hyper focused and read it in a matter of days. If it's less so, I struggle and often put it down never to be picked up again. So, one of THE most important tools in our ADD tool chest, I made a strategy. I love to write, nothing specific, just pen going over paper. It's soothing...what better way to keep me (somewhat) interested than to take notes as I read "Focused Forward".While I didn't read the book in a matter of days, actually just finished it in the beginning of May 2016, I was drawn every day to pick it up. Some mornings (my designated time for this book), I didn't want to put it down!! "What's next?!", I just HAD to find out! Every time I read it, I took away something I could DO. A tip, a tool, a strategy, an idea, an understanding...I began to see ME! The awesome ME I really was! Not the failure, not the scatter brain dumb blonde. The me that could be successful! The me that decided I don't have to be perfect at everything, or anything, the decision was mine to make. I could stop comparing myself to everyone else, I could stop believing I was lazy and difficulty. I could FINALLY just be me and know that was perfectly OK and acceptable!Twelve pages of notes later, when I read the last sentence, I just sat and smiled. "I'm going to make it!!", I thought, no, I BELIEVE. Just like the diagnosis and medication didn't fix me, this book didn't "fix" me either. What it DID do, was show me I'm not Broken!! It gave me things I never even began to consider as ways to handle the "storms" of ADD.This book is worth every penny. I actually have spent a LOT more in talk therapy (which helps tremendously!!), but the things I gleaned from this book are priceless. For those that can't afford therapy, or avoid therapy because of your situation, GET.THIS.BOOK. You will not be sorry. It WILL change you.

Discovering you have ADHD as an adult is at once incredibly relieving and completely disorienting. It's the mother of diagnoses-- now everything makes sense, but you have no idea what to do about it.Well, it turns out that unless you deal with the emotional disruption of ADHD (i.e., how you seem to magically blow up your life every so often with mystifyingly inexplicable behavior and mistakes...and the accumulated stress and anxiety that produces), you're not going to get very far with anything else.This book offers real solutions to help adults deal with the emotional issues that can be the most pernicious aspect of this otherwise kind-of-wonderful way of being.

I was diagnosed with ADHD after the birth of my second child when I was 35. I had spent my life knowing I was smart but I just couldn't seem to put all the pieces together and spent so much time wondering what was wrong with me. I couldn't find my car keys, my glasses, the TV remote, my (fill in the blank) and every time I couldn't find said object I felt like more and more like a failure. I kept asking myself: what is wrong with me? This is so simple, why can't I just do this and get it over with. Along comes James and Focused Forward. I admit, I was skeptical at first: Emotional Safe Place? Mental Support Group? Isn't this stuff that I was supposed to have gotten over when I became an adult? Boy was I wrong! This is the best way I can describe the difference between me pre Focused Forward and post Focused Forward: I had a really rough morning today. My 6 year old son (also ADHD) had a meltdown over what he was having for breakfast, while my 9 year old daughter (also ADHD - yes our house is in a constant state of chaos) needed to be reminded to to get her glasses, turn off the lights, etc. By the time we get to school (on time, which is rare), I'm working with my son to get him in a space to be his best that day. Talk about a storm! Finally everyone is ready and I'm back in the car heading to work, and I reach over to my backpack to grab my ADHD meds (they really work for me) only to realize that I've shut one of the straps in the passenger door and of course my backpack was unzipped and now everything in there is falling on to the passenger seat. This is the moment. I start to fall into an old pattern of shame and guilt and failure, but instead I said to myself "Well, this has been an interesting morning, I didn't expect this when I woke up today" It's that survival vs. thrival that so many of us deal with, and that is why Focused Forward and the techniques James Ochoa has laid out are so powerful.

The content and research in this book are very helpful and encouraging. The narration is very frustrating because they read the bullet points, and parentheses, and even when mentioning a â€œYA novelâ€ the narrator actually says â€œyahâ€ instead of â€œwhy ayeâ€. I have t even been able to finish it yet, because Iâ€™ll be listening, and the wonky reading gets so frustrating I have to turn it off. I think there are two different readers too, which is strange because itâ€™s not fiction with multiple characters.This book came highly recommended, and I am thankful to have found it, because I need the information found in it. I just wish I had gotten the physical book instead of the audio. Even better, I wish the author would have the audio re-recorded and also make some printables of some of the lists. As someone with ADHD, audiobooks are my best friend, but this one is counter productive. Get the paper book, and save yourself the frustration.

This book is strictly multiple choice test questions, no explanations for students to work through on their own. The QR codes that accompany each week's questions are supposed to explain each item, but I couldn't even watch past week 1 day 1 due to the narrator incorrectly reading numbers. He uses the word 'and' when he gets to a comma which makes him sound incompetent as a math guide. It also goes so fast that a child would constantly have to back up and listen again.

I was browsing for extra practice for my 5th grader. I was looking for something different from homework from school,something challenging, something like not new separate curriculum and not too expensive.Just before i so similar but old book in our public library and viola! I found this one! The book has 2 parts. Also you can use video explanation, if you need.Each page of the book has tasks for the day and tips and 5th day of the week has an assessment. Also there is a huge assessment at the end of the book. There are answers at the end as well(relief for doubtful and busy parents).The book 1 has an multiple choice and part 2 has free response. You could choose either one or combine both parts for better result.It is good for homeschooling, with online-video explanation it covers everything. It is not easy, on some questions you have to think twice, it is good for brain storm.

About one month ago I ordered four math books published by Argo Brothers Publishing â€“ Math 3rd Grade Common Core Workbook (Part 1 and Part 2), and Math 5th Grade Common Core Workbook (Part 1 and Part 2). Being a Math Tutor I always check different additional sources to help my students to be successful on the tests, especially based on Common Core. Usually I search Internet looking for Test Preparation information, and then compiling worksheets for different topics. It is hard work, because there is a lot of outdated information with different point of view on the same subject. I found almost everything I need in those books! Part 1 has a hundreds multiple choice questions which cover different topics, and Part 2 requires writing answers, which is much harder, and makes a student to analyze, and formulate his answer in proper way. Guessing doesnâ€™t work! All the books are well structured based by days and weeks, which can help with the planning of studying. I started to utilize those books in my tutoring process, and Iâ€™m very happy with the result â€“ it saves my time and effort, and I have big source of worksheets wit the answer keys in one place! I would recommend those books to parents of my students as a perfect guide to be successful on Common Core exams. Iâ€™d like to order the book Math 7th Grade Common Core Workbook (Part 1 and Part 2) in near future.

I recommend this book for practice problems and getting prepared for common core math. The layout is very convenient and organized for daily math solving problems. I am finding the book very useful in understanding concepts needed for passing the common core exam. There are problems provided for each day for 5 days a week, and answers are provided at the end of the book. A very useful feature is the "Tip of the day" which provides a sentence or two on vital concepts for solving problems. I highly recommend this book for any 5th grader who needs the extra practice to succeed.

I recommend this book (Argo Brothers Common Core Math Workbook Multiple Choice, 5th grade) for regular math practice and to help prepare for the common core tests. It provides 5-6 questions per page, which is a good amount for eveyday practice, and the contents are well-organized and easy to follow. In my opinion, you need to solve many math problems to master math and this workbook allows a lot of practice for problems that my sons are learning in school. I also bought a â€œFree Responseâ€ workbook also from Argo Brothers, so that they can practice different types of math problems.

I definitely recommend this book (Part I: Multiple Choice) and Part II: Free Response for daily math practice. They are well organized and provide fairly large number of exercises, which is important for successful learning. These books serve me as a very good companion for school curriculum.

My daughter is in 5th grade and advanced in math, however in project based school they either have different subject order or even omit subjects. So far we really enjoy this book, it allows my bilingual to practice written (paragraph) questions, make sure all 5th grade subjects are covered and it really shows problem areas and already mastered ones.

I use this book to tutor students in math. I like the format, where the lessons are divided weekly into five days. There are Assessment problems at the end of each week's lesson and the subsequent lessons include review from previous weeks. I'd recommend pairing this with the Free Response book, but be aware that some questions are recycled. Argo brothers did not even bother changing the numbers/diagrams on some problems.

Understanding leads to wisdom. Wisdom can be passed on but only to those who are willing to experience, master, and better themselves. Note that wisdom is the higher octave of learning, meaning that one can learn something to get by in life but still not have wisdom.The universe is run by a set of laws. The Kybalion gives us a glimpse of these.This thin book is an alchemical modern-day distillation of â€“ NOT creating worldly riches â€“ but of creating mental and spiritual riches: wisdom. The authors are 3 anonymous â€˜Initiatesâ€™ utilizing Hermetic Principles, passed down to wise â€œKingâ€ Solomon (whose name means â€œ3 lightsâ€, and who lived from 970-931 BCE). These Principles were then later passed down through the portals of the Ancient Mystery Schools 3 Â½ centuries ago. Thus, information from that time has been slowly and carefully transmitted through many generations of those who have had the burning desire to question their existence on earth and want to know how they fit into the scheme of things, among other things. Information continued to be guarded by presenting allegorical â€˜storiesâ€™ and being part of â€˜initiationsâ€™ of learning and then having that knowledge themselves if they are deemed wise enough to use it properly. Only then could an â€˜initiateâ€™ progress onto even higher levels of thought and activity. By virtue of being â€˜half god/ half manâ€™, he would have knowledge that mere mortals would not have. Hermes is the font from which Hermetic Philosophy flows. He is the progenitor and author of the Hermetic Corpus, a series of sacred texts. This book, The Kybalion is a â€˜distillationâ€™ of these original books. It may be the entire Corpus or may be only part of it. And hopefully, there was no â€˜loss in translation(s)â€™. The word â€˜Kybalionâ€™ takes the form of a Greek noun but has no meaning. However, the word could, in a hidden form, relate to the word â€˜Kabballahâ€™Note that Hermes has had even later incarnations, all dealing with wisdom and its transmission into a multitude of other cultures.Unfortunately, moving through the ages, people started perverting the wisdom knowledge base, so beginning with the Middle Ages, this knowledge went underground. Nowadays, modern-day living does not lend itself to people using complex thinking and abstractions to gain wisdom because it is faster to watch movies (the tech people are the ones who decide what something looks like and how it behaves, etc.) and because the author, publisher, and head of the company or TV station inserts his/ her views to present to the public. Therefore, most things IT are anti-Hermetic. This is one of the main problems facing mankind today: the inability to think, reason, and understand abstractions without seeing them in movies, TV.Therefore, in order to gain wisdom, turn off all things IT (except for .PDF format reading devices) and read this and other books. The authors have distilled some major nuggets/ ideas for readers to think about, so that people can evolve; they can also continue to question ideas, and during this process, continue to refine themselves. Those that canâ€™t do this fall away because they donâ€™t have the mental strength to persevere. These people wouldnâ€™t understand the concepts and may even pervert them because they lack the ability to stay with something long enough to learn from and benefit from it. Note also that people who evolve become refined by the trials and tribulations that they face; the result is wisdom and enlightenment, which is earned through hard work and perseverance.The authors of this book, the keepers of this knowledge/ wisdom slowly release their information in general terms to those who are new to gaining wisdom, for them to evolve and mentally and spiritually be able to stitch together the principles that make up the Great Work from all of the major light sources of every great religion or philosophy. These â€˜New Initiatesâ€™ that are ready will have started to change themselves from a rough state to a refined state, like ancient alchemy refining lead into gold. I purchased this for my man who is incarcerated. He and I are really exploring a lot of these concepts. It is well written in the aspect that the information is not easy to consume without cumulative knowledge that you have acquired overtime. Initially when I was exposed to a lot of this I considered it hocus pocus mumbo jumbo because I had been brought us Christian all my life. I'm glad that this read did not fall into my life in the very beginning because it would've fell on deaf and dumb ears.If you are not ready to receive this type of information don't waste your time. It will go right over your head as it could've been with the old me. This is meant to be taken in light of itself not comparative to other texts. The best rule of thumb is listen to all spectrums, agreeable as well as disagreeable, with an open mind. Use your God given common sense because we all have it. Then you will be receptive.This information makes sense if you will be open to it. Actually if you really look, these are the same concepts that all these self help gurus who successful people follow are feeding you. They just package it a little differently and take out anything that might be offensive to the masses. I hope you find your enlightenment through it.

This little book will produce years of meaningful contemplation and has the potential to change lives. It will be good to read the book and find a practitioner hermitist since the book only have essence and does not cover topics such as WILL power. The book does give you keys to open or deepen any other knowledge, so if you are into astrology, numerology,any other occult science, you will have a tremendous insights into your studies as an extra unexpected bonus. Again, the book has essence and will keep bringing you back to it from time to time as you uncover more and more of its hidden wisdom.

First, I am not a Steampunk aficionado, so this book was my entree into this world. I bought the book to complete a Hallowe'en costume, and could not find the sort of accoutrement that I wanted. The altitude mask is what I was interested in.The author really does things right. One of the problems for any do-it-yourself project for which there is no specialty store is procuring the necessary materials. There is an terrific chapter on this.The step-by-step instructions are excellent and fully illustrated. This makes everything extremely easy to achieve, even if the time involved is lengthy.I do have some critique, however. I guess this is not so much a criticism of the book as a call for some additional development.For one, I needed some gears but simply could not bring myself to destroy a cuckoo clock to do this. I did find some gears for sale online, but they are not functional gears, so you can't really articulate them. They are just window dressing. There must be other sources for gears?I like the resourceful approach to the gauge fabrication, but the one shown looks like it is made from a bottle cap--because it is. Sorry. That contemporary icon is so ubiquitous that there is no way to disguise it to look Victorian. There were other examples of gauge casings that could be used, but this one was the primary one illustrated. It is also used with the altitude mask.And, hey, the Electro-static Hand Cannon looks like a brass lamp on a stick. Again, I don't want to be a party-pooper, but after spending all the time on the wooden grip, isn't there something less recognizable than this iconic object from my Grandma's living room? I know that brass objects are hard to find, but this just doesn't work for me.I am making the altitude mask, but am modifying it significantly. In particular, how about some hoses? To me, it just doesn't look like much except a leather bag. So, I added some hoses. Also, some sort of Victorian-style tank for an oxygen source would be welcomed. Maybe something that looks like a goat bladder or something. I couldn't come up with anything.I like the helmet cannon, but have you priced a brass cannon lately, even a little one like this? This is something prized by collectors of militaria, so is not easily obtainable at a reasonable cost.Having made these comments, however, I applaud the creativity and skill that went into this book. Thank you so much for providing this resource.

I bought this to get ready for a Steampunk event at work. We are required to make and wear costumes, and I have NO experience with Steampunk.Overall it's a good guide. It gives some background about Steampunk, history, different variations, what to do and not to do, etc. The guides themselves are as good as they can be. You get a picture of a guy wearing everything you can make, which is cool. Each project has an item and tools list as well as tips.My ONLY issue with this book is the quality of the paper and pictures. The paper is pretty thin and I worry about using this while fabricating as it's easy to tear. Most of the pictures are also out of focus and the lighting is awful. It looks like they were taken with an old cell phone camera. While you can tell what each part looks like, I feel like I'm using a free PDF version of a better book.

My impossible-to-please 14-year-old got this book for Christmas. I thought it would be something for which she would give a grunt of thanks but she is really excited about the projects in it. The projects themselves look like things she will be able to do alone after making a couple of practice products with help. (This book is definitely for teens and adults -- the projects require tools and materials that sometimes have sharp edges.)Each chapter contains all the steps for one projects (there are 12 chapters). The book also includes appendices for additional reading, patterns, and metric conversion. Each project has clear and detailed instructions with plenty of photographs for each step. If you love making things, you won't go wrong with this book.

The pages hidden between the lovely covers are full of fun and amazingly well layed out projects created, innovated and presented in a wonderfully easy to follow and incredibly well written and thought out style.Thomas Willeford is a name well know to most Steampunks and his skills and amazing style of art and crafting have generated incredibly beautiful wonders he freely share with the world. This book shows step by step how even novice makers can embrace their inner Steampunk and create not just Steampunk but costumes and accessories for any kind of Cosplay!And he's so cool in person He'll autograph your copy is you get to meet him at a Con! (But be cool in asking since he would be working).Thanks for both the cool books!!!! Oh Ya check out the other one too!

I started getting into steampunk and wanted a book with some info to make steampunk accessories. This was exactly what I was looking for. It is not for a beginner maker but someone a bit more seasoned. Lots of good into and tips, will be build some of the complicated stuff soon.

Things get even worse when some of the threats seem aimed at his new-found mate.This series may be long running, but it doesn't seem to repeat itself or get stale. It's one of my favorite series & never fails to catch & hold my interest. Though this wasn't one of my favorite of the PDA books, it doesn't disappoint. The main characters are likeable & don't take themselves too seriously. The supporting characters are mostly new, with only a cameo appearance by a character from a previous book. The story line has a good mix of drama & rom-com to it, too. All in all, this is one you don't want to miss.

I tell you this book is amazing and take you into a idea of world domination..lol. Man vs Woman, Lion vs Wolf such an exciting match up, who do you think will win. I know you should never piss off an Alpha and in this book you will learn why.Of course no world domination story could be complete without a love story thrown in. Dali and Azai are just the perfect cute couple and you fall in love with Dali's spunk and love how she shows her Alpha to her mate. You just have to love those woman from Aurora.Of course in a PDA book you always find Gerri helping out this stubborn Alphas and this on is no different. But between the Lions and Wolves can they figure out the bad guy so everyone can get back to being happy again?Until Next Time.... Tabi

I really liked Dalissa and her female empowerment. This is a fun and sexy tale with a bit of mystery thrown in. I loved it.

Gerri Wilder from the Paranormal Dating Agency has done it again. This time she has matched Azai a wolf shifter from earth to Dalissa a Lioness from the planet Aurora. But Azai is just an ordinary run of the mill wolf shifter. He is the Alpha of his pack. And even though on Aurora Dalissa is considered weaker and smaller compared to the other shifters, on Earth has better sight, smell and other abilities that the Earth shifters do not.I loved this couples instant connection. They were both very strong and likeable characters.I can't wait for Remy and Jed's books.

Wow! I enjoyed all the drama, action, humor, adventure, passion, and steamy hot romance with awesome characters. As the series goes on, each book is just as great as all the previous ones. I love this series, keep them coming, and very highly recommended.
